Where would you move?

I need help. I am a 38yr old nurse. I'm been an LPN 5 yrs. I'm married to a 25yr old loving guy. Both my kids are grown. I live in Central Louisiana and have been here all my life. I need to get away from here. I want excitment, arts, live music, museums, beaches, mountains, but not a city with over 500,000 people. I love the small home feel but there isn't anything to do around here. I'm not looking for the night life or clubbing.

We have enough money saved to move anywhere in the US but just don't know where to go. I'm also concerned about the cost of living I don't want to move somewhere where we have to pay over a grand a month for an apartment.

I'm also concerned about crime. Am I asking for to much?

Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Question? - Where would you move?

Hmmm, somewhere with NO 25 year old girls? Lol, just kidding!

Do any of your kids live in a more urban area? Its nice to be fairly close to family, imo. Maybe consider a college town, many of them are reasonably priced, fairly safe and have interesting cultural stuff going on. Definitely check out the opportunities for LPNs also because some places are great and others are tough to find jobs. Good luck.

Oooohh! I love this game!

What do you prefer temperature wise? Heat? Humidity? Snow or no snow? I take it you will be renting, not buying? Do you want to be able to walk to town? What kind of work will your husband be looking for? Will you plan on continueing your education?

we are empty nesters, and after a four year search we moved here to lynchburg, va..and love it. great cost of living, at the foot of the mountains, five colleges in town, and mild weather all year long. no ocean, though, but plenty of wonderful lakes. check it out!! be happy to pm with any more info..:yeah:

If you prefer to stay in the south, there's always somewhere in North Carolina. You could move to Asheville, which has mountains and an artistic community. Go west and there's Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. Or just move somewhere in between. However, I don't recommend Fayetteville...

Although it's a bit larger than you wanted, I've always heard absolutely wonderful things about Portland. Check it out, maybe you'll find you like it. (Also, I'm partial to Chicago and surrounding areas, even though that's much larger than you wanted :) There are some nice suburbs nearby with plenty to do though - Lisle, Naperville (extremely low crime, kinda yuppy though). Lots of luck to you! Oh, and look in CA too, lots of your mountains and beaches right next to each other :nuke:

Tulsa, OK is very nice. Low cost of living, great variety of health care settings, great shopping, muesums, etc.......Alot of people moved here from Monroe, LA when State Farm closed. Wish ya the best!

stay in the south east! lower cost of living, lots of jobs, and LPN's are more widely utilized. the market i know in south florida is in the pooper right now, and you can get a really nice house for under 150,000. we are moving there after i graduate in october. disney/universal is in diving distance, lots of city life in ft laud, miami and palm beach, great shopping and of course beaches! plus snowbirds increase hospital populations and overtime is awesome in the winter....

omG "somewhere with NO 25 year old girls?"

now I know why I love being a nurse. You all are awesome!!

Jules A - One of my sons live here and that is why I haven't left sooner, leaving the grandbaby will be hard, my other son will be stationed in Souel Korea for a year. I'm not sure about a college town, I would have to put a chasity belt on the hubby..

ClHRn--weatherwise, I would be open as long as it's not to the extreme of any temps. I can deal with 30s to 99s

yes we will be renting but buying will be an option in about a yr. My hubby is in the oil field business he works offshore but he is will to switch careers because he wants to get away from here as well he also has experience in housing construction and cement finishing, as for walking to town, well i would like to be about 5 - 10 miles from a big city. I am currently working on getting my Real Estate license as well. I really love RN's because they are there to help me and I don't think I would be go at being the top dog, that why I chose LPN over RN so no I won't be furthering my nursing career.

BlueRidgeHome RN -- I'm googleing it right now..thanks

BeKindtokittens-- funny you should mention Asheville, that was at one time my top choice. I have an internet pal who lives there, I was attracted to the mountains but then I changed my mind because there isn't beaches there.

It appears that the only place i've found so far with mountains and beaches is CA and I don't think we could afford at this time to live there with the cost of living so high.

I've looked int Austin as well, but the property taxes in TX scare me. MY cousin lives in Humble and paid 6000 last yr in property tax..MUD tax :omy:

Thanks Elsabelles

Thanks Mesa is there a lot of things to do there, like museums etc

Hiya Flight Nurse..thanks a lot! You know my husband wants FLorida but I never looked into it, we went to Pensacola on a trip last year and all the bridges and water scares me stiff but it was my first time experiencing that. I didn't know all that about Florida that you mentioned I will do more research on FLorida. I just hope moving to Florida doesn't cause me to get a divorce..J/K had to make you all laugh. Thanks so much for all the cool Suggestions.

Well, I LOVE New Mexico. Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos.

We lost our home in south Florida to Hurricane Francis, 2004. Our home owners insurance topped $11,000 in 2003 and we were 7 miles from the beach! The constant influx of snowbirds and illegal aliens has put a huge strain on the medical community and leaves a debt in the billions every year for the people who actually live there. From October-April driving is impossible and getting a table in a decent restuarant is impossible because of the snowbirds. Since 2004 (dubbed the "mean season" because of 4 back to back hurricanes) some 35,000 people have left the state each year. The crime rate in south Fl. is at an all time high. If you don't speak fluent spanish you will be in the minority! No state tax, but you get to pay for a lot of transients who come down every winter for a free ride!

Probably sounds like a downer but just make sure you do your homework

before moving to the land of Mickey and beaches!
