Hi,
I have just got a job at St Joseph's in Phoenix and am just starting my search for rental accomodation. Where would you recommend we live, I have been researching Scottsdale as I dont want to live too far away from the hospital, especially as I am doing nights and am concerned re the drive back in the morning.
I want to live in a nice neighbourhood, with good schools for a Kindergarten child.
thank you

Scottsdale is very nice, but expensive to live compared to other areas. How about Globe, Peoria, Superior, El Mirage. :)

Or what about Avondale? It's all pretty new, and a quick commute downtown.

I live in Tempe, it's about a 20-25 minute drive to St. Joes.
I love it here in Tempe, we're far enough away from ASU so we don't get all the noise and traffic from that, but it's close enough so there's always plenty of things to do. And we're close enough to Phx that it's not too far of a drive for work or whatever, but far enough so we don't get all the noise and traffic from there.
I'm not sure how reasonable the rent would be, I know the houses are getting to be pretty expensive. But it's not as expensive as Scottsdale. Here in South Tempe it's really nice and you'd probably be able to find a reasonable place to rent. I'd just look around at different places to check out the prices.
This will give you some more info: http://www.atomwood.com/town-tempe-chandler-ahwatukee-foothills.asp
I'm so excited for you, Kay!! :)

I live in North Phoenix, it is centrally located with quick freeway access. I am about 15 minutes from St. Joe's. Scottsdale is expensive, but it is nice also. Doesnt matter where you go there are little area's that might be undesirable. Let us know specific area's tht you are looking at and between all of us, I am sure we could let you know, wether it's a good location or not. In regards to kindergarten, Paradise valley school district has many good schools and offer all day kindergarten, where as other districts do half day. How soon are you relocating. P.S. I see you are from the UK, I was born in Wolkingham, of course that was thirty some odd years ago. Anyway, keep us updated.
Jennette:)
Hello,
Thank you all for your help, Peoria there wasn't anything up for rent. I will now look in the areas's you suggested and get back to you. Paradise Valley was the same.
thank you once again

Look for something in the Biltmore area, you would only be a few minutes from work and the apts are gorgeous in the area. You want to be close to the hotel, if you are looking at a map. Some of those areas mentioned above are just way to far out, especially with traffic the way it is there now. No sense to spend so much time commuting.

In addition to Biltmore try an area of town called "North Central Phoenix" - it is a very nice part of Phoenix that contains the Madison School District - one of the best in the city. North Central Borders 7th STreet to 7th Avenue - Bethany Home Road to Northern AVenue. Takes us about 10 minutes from our hourse around Central and Northern Avenues to make it to St. Joes. There are lots of rentals in this area - though purchasing has gotten EXPENSIVE.
Kay, a 20-minute drive to St. Joes isn't too far, unless you want to just be minutes from the hospital. But it never takes me more than 20-25 minutes to drive there ..... I never have problems with the traffic going that way.
North Cen. Phx is nice though, I have some friends that live up that way.

For those looking to purchase a home and work in central Phx, it might be good to look at the trolley plans.

Hi Kay,
Sorry, but I'm having trouble finding anything official on the web regarding the topic. I think it's called "light rail" and the voters passed it a year or more ago. I'm not sure how accurate they are, but I found some websites that had some early details/ideas:
