What do you do when.......

I'm more concerned about the people who are listening to his "medical advice", than the fact that he is giving it. Frankly, I would just let it go. Anyone who is silly enough to listen to "medical advice" from someone just because they're married to an RN kind of deserves whatever they get.

And yes, I do think you should start giving out computer advice!

Personally, I think you're over-reacting. My husband has learned quite a bit about health since we've been together the past six years. While he doesn't usually give out medical advice, who am I to say he can't? Just because I'm a nurse, that means no one in my family without a license can dicuss medical things?

Everyone and their mother gives out medical advice. As long as your husband isn't saying anything that is dangerous, just let him talk. If you are asked for your opinion, give it. Have you ever thought that, with an entire family of nurses, your husband just might feel a little left out?

Just when he's not looking, so that his feelings aren't injured.

DH does that, so far everything I've heard has been good advise. Now I have a friend that likes to say "____________ says" quoting me... my problem is it's nothing that I would say. Another friend asked me "did you say xyz" I said "NO" "Well she said you did" I wish I remembered what it was because it was really bad bad advise. Not even a topic I had ever discussed with her.

he gives TERRIBLE advise and I DO roll my eyes when he isn't looking!:lol2: Y'all wouldn't believe it! His advice can be sometimes dangerous...that's when I step into the conversation!

I have a family member like that. His brother's a doctor, so he must be a doctor by osmosis. It's super annoying. These kinds of people baffle me.

This wouldn't bother me as much as the patient's who think they are doctors or nurses, just because their cousin's wife's sister-in-law, blah, blah, is one!

discussing medical issues is one thing, giving medical advice is quite another. i don't ever do that, even as an experienced nurse. a layperson should not be giving medical advice because that is just dangerous. the fact that a lot of people do it doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. heck, we can't even give it here on this web site...any questions requiring any kind of medical advice are nipped in the bud by the moderators.

people often ask me for medical advice. the only response i ever give is "ask your doctor, and if it is something of significant import, get a second opinion."

My dear father, who is a retired court officer (and the youngest 62 you will ever meet) swears the NY time is the bible and takes it's medical advice over mine.

Or says "oh, you know NY times said so and so" and I say "yes dad, that is exactly what I told you a month ago"

I am the only medical professional in the family, and he is very, very proud of me, but I am thinking he is just realizing the capacity of my knowledge:)

Funny, my cousin and some of my friends are engineers and are just simply grossed out by anything medical and know absolutely nothing about medicine.
