does anyone know what rights i have when i have worked 6+ months on night duty? if i am going to roated to days?

Have you asked your employers? I dont believe switiching shifts falls under "rights"..especially if you were hired for nights in the first place.

I would be careful with using 'rights' to get a better position/ shift. what about asking your manger what you would need to work on to be considered when the spot opens up. realy 6 months is not that long of a time frame.

make a strong effort to advance skills and knowledge and in differnt ways let your employer know and build good repore with co-workers. those two thing will give a better way to get what you want

getting the shift you want does deal with self marketing and also the team member goes along way more then then your/my/ our rights.

Unless you have a union contract or another type of written contract with your employer that specifies what "rights" you have regarding shifts, seniority, etc., you probably don't have much in the way of rights. Most employers, in my experience (in non-union states), will attempt to accommodate employees' preferences re: shifts, holidays, etc., as much as they reasonably can, but the job descriptions usually specify that you're not guaranteed a particular shift and you can be moved around as the employer needs to to accommodate the needs of operating the facility.

I guess it depends on how your state defines your "rights." My state is an employer-at-will state, which means they can hire me or fire me for pretty much any reason as long as they don't do something illegal. CHanging my shift would not fall under the "illegal" heading. In general, employers have the right to move you to whatever postion is needed as long as you are qualified. They would never think of putting me in OR because I have NO credible experience in adult ICU. But they could certainly move me from NICU to Peds ER if they wanted to. And I could either learn to like it or jump ship.

In my experience most managers will try to give you the shifts you want or need, within reason. Drop the "rights" speech--it smacks of entitlement, something you DON"T want to suggest. Perhaps there is some compromise to be made. Good luck.:nurse:

The way that it works is that if you were hired for the night shift, that's the shift you work. Talk to management if you are interested in another shift, but I agree with the others in that you shouldn't think of it as having a "right" to be switched to days. Six months is not all that long in nursing. As others have said, work on your skills and market yourself. Although I am not a nurse I have worked closely with them on the floor, so I'm far from an expert, but I have seen others make transitions from nights to days after more than one year of experience, maybe even more depending on the floor.

your question is not clear to me. Are you working nights and want days? or are you working nights and they are going to make you rotate day/night?
