What if I can't make it?

Published

I'm transferring from a cc to a college. The last time I went to a college I got kicked out because of my grades. I am petrified that I'm going to make the same mistake. I had a 3.25 at the cc but everyone says that cc is so much easier than reg college. I have to work - will continue working weekend option and will be only having one day a week off. My classes are biochemistry, advanced physio with lab, written analysis of literature, and nurse's role socialization. Few of those classes are going to take alot of time. What if I study and study my butt off and I still don't make good grades? Any advice???? Right now I'm crying I'm so scared that I won't make the grades and that I am stupid after all. I just know I cannot continue working as a CNA.

If you freak yourself out that much you'll do yourself in before you even get there! You're older now and more mature, and if this is what you really want, you'll do fine.

HANG IN THERE ! It's tough but you can do it. Nursing school is rough no matter how you look at it. Working, worry and no time for yourself makes things worse. I know very few nurses that didn't have times of major stress. If nursing isn't for you now, just keep on keep'n on. Life is too short to be so stressed over such things. I know it's what you want, but I am sure if you really want it you'll get there eventually. Sometimes it's hard to see the trees for the forest. Back off a little , regroup , take a deep breath, a brisk walk and keep talking to people that can support you. Let us know how things are going. You'll be in my prayers tonight.. Hang in there!

relax

don't waste your energy and thoughts with all that worrying

instead - use your mind for your studying

be thorough and organized in your studying style

do practice tests, make up your own

This is a temporary bridge you have to cross. First things first - eliminate time wasters in your life(friends, chores that can wait). Get your books & notebooks ahead of time. START READING now on break. Get ahead. Make flashcards that you can bring to work and look at during your break. Buy plenty of grocery items - pasta, etc.. you can make a big batch and eat off it for a few days. Eliminate nightly cooking. You can make this work. If you need to - drop one class.

Nobody is going to hunt you down and kill you if you don't pass. If you don't pass a class, so what. Take it over. Some people don't even have the opportunity to fail a college course.

well don't self-defeat before you even try. I was a college drop out when I went back to school, had a lovely 1.2 GPA yea that is right....

I had a 4.0 in nursing school. If I can do it, so can you. You have to want it badly and work hard, but it's totally doable.

If you can work full time as a cna, are considering working full time as a cna while in school, have been accepted into a nursing program....you're halfway there! Relax, dear. Enjoy the excitement....you've just worked your tail feathers up into a frenzy! You can do it! We are here for support!

It may not be easy...but lots of us have endured the trials of nursing school and come out the other end of the barely lit tunnel..

I bet you make better grades this time around with the mature outlook on life you've gained. Remember, anything worth having is not easy.

First off, take a deep breath and relax a bit. ;)

A year ago, I remember sitting in my office the weekend before my first anatomy test, thinking "I can't learn all this stuff by Wed." Fortunately, I called on some resources from AA and realized I only had to learn the next bone right now. I ended up doing quite well on the test, even though at over 50 yo I've got more gray hairs than memorization capacity.

Make sure you get organized before your classes start.......books ready, notebooks for each class, or a three ring binder with dividers. Bust your rear for the first few weeks and get your best grades on the first exams/assignments..................that gives you a lot of confidence, and provides room for the inevitable week when life will take a lot of your study time.

One other thing...............give yourself time to sleep, too, especially the night before an exam. If you're like me, you'll get more good out of thinking clearly than going over notes etc one more time.

Best of luck to you.

Like the others have said, you have to set your priorities. How bad do you want this? Can your sacrifice1-2 years of your life for studying? I worked as a carpenter before this, and partied a lot. I had to put a sign of my schedule on my door (for when my drop by friends that wanted to drink beer came over) of a day and time when I could join them. I put ear plugs in my ears and didn't answer the door. Dang it was hard. I survived high school with D's. Now peoples lives depend on what I do, and I get A's and B's.

If I can do it, you can. We also have to maintain a 3.0 to stay in our program. My CC is talking about making the LPN program mandatory 2 years so that the students retain more information. The RN program will be two additional years. Hospitals in my state are turning away LPN's now and only hiring RN's.

You have to make changes, but the rewards are worth the sacrifices.
