Hi everyone,

I've just recently passed the NCLEX exam for Vermont and thus soon to apply for visa screen. I know for the fact that IELTS is among the requirements for this to take place. I just wondered is there a specific passing rate or grade that I should obtain in order to qualify for my application? Also, how long does it take for the visa screen to be process considering the retrogression that is actually happening at the moment?

Many thanks!

Check out the International forum, I know this has been asked recently and think average score is 6.5.

Usually takes 4 months once everything is submitted, retrogression doesn't affect it at all. It is once you have employer and I140 has been approved before you get caught up in retrogression

I thought Visa Screen takes about a month and half or so.

if you do a search in this forum I think you will find average is 4 months. Mine took 5 months

To answer questions in order here:

If you trained in the UK, then you are not required to write the IELTS exam, it is waived for you. If you trained in another country, then you need to write it. There are specific requirements for being considered to have passed that exam. You can find the specifics on this forum.

And for the other poster:

Average wait time is about four months if you trained out of the US. For those that trained in the US, it is usually about four weeks, also the same for those that trained in Canada.

We have seen some come thru faster, but this is not the normal time. Always allow more time that you really need. But the issue is that it is only needed for when the nurse actually has their interview with US Embassy if going the CP route, and that is the only one that can be possible to complete at this time. It is not required to have it in hand when having the petitions submitted. Actually only CGFNS exam, or the NCLEX-RN exam is required to start the petitioning process once you have an employer.

I trained in the US and mine took 3 months...so yes allow more time than you think. With all of the people applying now they might be backlogged as well. If anyone thinks dealing with USCIS is difficult the lack of communication with the CGFNS is a lot worse.

Would it be advisable then, if after passing the IELTS and NCLEX, to apply for VS?

OR

look for an employer to petition you after having only the IELTS and NCLEX?

Does having the VS help with finding an employer? What I mean is, will it make one more attractive to prospective employers?

The Visa Screen Certificate has nothing to do with the employer, it is needed only for immigration purposes. It is not required to begin the petitioning process.

The issue in front of you is the retrogression, so you have plenty of time to get the VSC and have it before it is required of you. You need to focus on finding an employer now.

it took you 3 months!!!??!! Oh my lord!! i'm in the process of applying for the VSC and now I know I must do it NOW, I thought it took about a month :o( I also trained in the US. Darn.

On average it is a month if you trained in the US. But that is provided that they receive the information in a timely fashion. Never any guarantee to that.

Okay, thanks suzanne... :-)

i have some questions:

1. if you are an ielts & nclex-rn passer, can you already start looking for an employer in the US (california) and start the petitioning process while waiting for the VSC?

2. is it advisable to get first a job experience and post graduate trainings (BLS, IV trainings, etc) as it will appear on your resume when you submit it to the employer or by simply having ielts & nclex will do?

3. what is the average waiting time from the start of the petitioning process until you'll be able to go to US?
