Two Snaps Up!

It doesn't take one too long to peruse the many articles on this blog to find endless banter between colleagues on various topics. I quite enjoy it. There is nothing wrong with gathering advice and giving it, or reading articles on pitfalls of nursing to avoid altogether.

My nursing career has brought many changes, triumphs and sorrows. I have had the pleasure to work with many different disciplines, all in an effort to learn and grow. I enjoy healthcare, collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge that will never fully be satisfied with the passage of time. However, I'd like to bring up the topic of a dwindling sense of professionalism exuded from fellow colleagues. No doubt they are talented and skilled, but the way many communicate leaves a little bit to be desired. It is humorous to read the way nurses talk to each other on this blog, but a little distasteful in the real world. It's a blog, so I expect a little of the whole "let your hair down and do ya thang" but never would I imagine to see fellow nurses behaving bad in the workplace. Also, the stories spun leaves one to take it with a grain of salt, but if there is truth to them I hold little confidence that the profession is headed for greatness. I love nurses, I love the profession, I know the hard work and dedication and heartache that comes with each shift. I do not understand vile commentary or texting lingo actually spoken to each other, to patients, to other disciplines. We can rise to the occasion, we have been through so much through covid, I don't want to demean the profession and marginalize it into a meme or fodder for an influencer to discuss on the next post.  Let's do better and let's be better. We've been through too much to let the most trusted profession slip through our fingers.

What are you talking about?

I think they are requesting more "decorum" in the communications by nurses on this forum. At least that is all I could figure out LOL.

I think they were saying the informal and sometimes unprofessional decorum is one thing on a discussion forum  (to be expected) but it's disappointing and another thing entirely to see it in the workplace when interacting with patients and other professionals...

Seems like that's what they said:

So is Vintagegal implying that we all behave poorly in the workplace, and admonishing us to do better? I guess I just don't understand the point of the OP.

I don't even understand what the title means. Maybe it's a regional colloquialism?

I just googled it...didn't come up with much. ?

But while doing that and not coming up with an answer that makes sense I had the thought that maybe its meant to be an example of the strange/texting lingo/unprofessional communications he or she is writing about?

@vintagegal let us know if we are getting close with our interpretations.

If I remember correctly,  " Two snaps up ! "   is a line from a recurring  skit in the  1990's comedy sketch show " In Living Color".

But I am totally confused by the OP......maybe the poster overheard a coworker use the expression  and is saying  it was unprofessional ?  ?‍♀️

"Two snaps up" is most definitely a cultural reference.

I think its important to realise that our colleagues will do things differently to how we do it. And it doesn't necessarily make their way right and our way wrong or vice versa.

Perhaps its more important to look at our own practice and ensure it's  ethical and safe rather than sitting in judgement of others who do things differently to how we do.

Well, until I saw tmb's post, I'd forgotten about "two snaps up!" on In Living Color.

I was going to write that maybe OP's title meant something like "Pay Attention!"

(shrug; I dunno)
