Trust

No man or woman is an island. It takes a village.

Bla bla bla.

That being said, who do you trust?

My personality is loud in RL, like it is here. I have 1 or 2 teachers and guidance that I am friends with, but outside of them I really feel like I don't trust school personnel the way I trusted other nurses, or even docs.

I agree completely. School personnel are a different breed. There are only 2 people in my building that I trust enough to chat with and vent to.

This will be an interesting thread!

I don't usually vent ever to teachers, but do trust a few administrative people. I also have another nurse who covers a couple of other grades in our other campus building and we vent/chat a lot. It helps.

I also have a loud personality in RL. Or so I've been told...;)

Oh yea, the other nurses in my district are good, but they are not in my building.

i don't have any other nurses in my district. i have a secretary or to that i can vent to and honestly my principal does have my back in most circumstances -though i'm still waiting to hear back on the more help issue ;). I can vent to him when i really need to.

I sense that I can only chat about work gripes with other school nurses, and in my district we have monthly meetings. Can't put my finger on why, but something tells me not to open up too much with other staff when I have the opportunity to share something with them. Definitely don't feel that medical camaraderie with non-nurses in school! Glad you guys are here, too :)

To Farawyn and Jen - you both used RL. Please what is RL?

I was an elementary school teacher for several years and now I'm an elementary school site nurse. It's like knowing the secret handshake about who you can trust. There is only ONE person: Head Custodian.

I definitely have only felt the camaraderie with custodians. What is up with that?

I am the one and only nurse and am definitely NOT a loud personality type. I have one staff member that I occasionally vent to in desperation but don't think I can trust her that much so I try to keep it to myself.

REAL LIFE!

People "shush" me.

I LOVE this.

It's different for me because my children went to the school where I work, so I was fortunate to know a LOT of the staff members. My only issue is that some are dismissive of things I ask of them, and not good at communicating. (Answering emails, etc.)

The office staff is primo. They "get it" and try to help. That helps a lot.

I also have another nurse in an adjoining building and it is SO helpful to get her input. We are separate schools, same district. Makes a big difference.

At home the dear hubs gets to listen to every little gripe from my day...for 15 minutes then no more work talk. At school, the secretary and one teacher are all I trust to speak my mind, and even then I limit what I will say.
