Hello YOU GUYS (Just read the other thread ;)

I live in Toledo and I am trying to decide on what college to attend. It is more between Owens and Toledo. I'm not yet sure if I want an ADN or BSN. I am sooo much closer to UT. I will be open to any input, suggestions, or ideas.

Thanks!

Hi Kristi-

I live in Toledo as well. Just so you know, after pre-requisites, Owens is on a wait list until 2008 right now for the ADN program. I am going there right now to finish up my BSN pre-reqs and all teh girls in my Micro class were talking about the enormous wait. I'm not sure about UT and BG's wait. For both UT and BG, you attend at the University the first 2 years doing all general ed classes, then spend the final 2 years at Medical College of Ohio doing your nursing classes.

Another option is Mercy College of Northwest Ohio. They have both an ADN and BSN program. My mother-in-law teaches there and told me there was no wait for either program at this time.

Hope this helps

I live near toledo also.. and yes the wait list is until 2008 for the ADN program.. hardly seems possible anyone would wait that long. I don't believe that UT or BG have wait lists, and you can apply for admission twice a year to these schools. Same with Mercy or Lourdes, although they are a bit more expensive that UT or BG. I am just finishing up my last few pre-req's right now and trying to decide where to go also... good luck!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies!

I had no idea that Owens had a 3 year wait! That is ridiculous! What are you supposed to do in the meantime? I can't even see new HS grads waiting that long! They need to pay those teachers more so the wait list isn't so long!

I have looked at Mercy and Lourdes, and they are quite expensive, not to mention their requirements and curriculum seem tough, not that NS isn't, but WOW!

I think that I'll go with UT. The BSN route looks so much easier. The first two years are basiclly science and math classes, and the last two years at MCO are ONLY nursing classes. I like the idea of having all your time devoted to nursing classes at one time without having to focus on other classes at the same time.

Again, thanks! You have helped me decide! I still can't believe that there is a 3 year wait at Owens!

I found out the same information last Spring. Then I checked at MUOT(MCO) and found out thier direct entry(GEMINI) program was full this Fall.

No wonder there is a nursing shortage- the wait for a spot is so long. Who

knows what the labor market for nurses will be in three years. Just like teachers, it can turn around fast. We all remember what happened the last time they closed a hospital in Toledo- not pretty. The only program I could get into quickly was Rush in Chicago. I'm hoping to start there in Jan. '06.

Rush will cost about ten times as much as Owens- now that is RIDICULOUS! :o

Toledo also had an ADN program. I know there have been a few problems in the past but I have heard they've cleaned their act up. Got a new director and changed cirriculum. Last I heard their was no wait list for their ADN program.

Thanks for the reply Med.

Can you tell me where the program is at and can one get into it this Fall?

Thanks again! :)

I am currently in the ADN program at UT (2nd semester).I highly recommend our program because we have small class sizes because no one knows about it really as you can tell from responses here.My class has 11 students, we all become friends in this type of environment and it makes studying so much easier. Our test are made of NCLEX style questions which makes passing boards easier.....we have 99-100% Nclex passing rate...highest in the NW Ohio area(compared to the BSN @MCO/UT, and Owens at like 80-90%). the program is 4 semesters and you can start in fall or spring, no summer classes.there are some pre-requisites.unless youve already done your basics (bio, english, psy).

check out the site for more info.it even has our syllabus and class schedules on there.

I graduated from BG last year so I also went to MCO. I was nice doing all your prereq's first and then getting in the nursing classes. The bad thing is that you have to apply to MCO your sophomore year and they usually only have so many seats available and I know some of my friends didn't get in the first time.

I loved my experience at BG and MCO though and did pass my boards on the first try as did the majority of the people I graduated with.

I went to UT ADN program, and it was crazy at first. They were restructuring the program when I got in. The program is great now, and there is a waiting list to get in. The instructors are great.

I am on OCC grad with my ADN, but back when I started in 2003 there wasnt much of a wait... I did really enjoy it there and it was a good life choice for me at the time so I can't complain : )

Hower, I am now at Lourdes working on my BSN completion and I absolutely love it here. It is on the expensive side IMO, but the hospital I work at has a tuition assistance program that is very nice. I only have a few more classes to take and should be finished up next year. I am so glad I continued on.

Toledo is lucky to have many respectable nursing schools.

Good luck with your choice.

Lourdes is a nice college. I went to OCC and graduated a long time ago and back then was on a 2 year wait.
