Tips for Nclex-pn

hello, i took my pn boards in sept and passed. my advice expect the unexpected:uhoh21: , no-no just kiddin. my real advice is to make sure when you read a ques you can restate it in a simpler way. many times people are distracted by fluff they put into questions to distract you. stop studying about 2 dys before test, we don't want last min shock! when i was taking my exam i was so nervous my hands could barely stay on the mouse, i had to stop, only for about 2 or 3 secs and take deep breaths to calm myself down- believe me, this helps to clear your mind. remember abc and safety, if the question does not pertain to the abc's then there is a good possibility that it is a safety question. my biggest advice it the restating the question thing, you can't go wrong. don't pre- judge on whether you did bad or not. they gave me lots of med ques, many or close to all of which i either struggled to answer or didnt know, but i passed with 85. lesson i learned from that is that you will always feel like you failed and will remember all the ques you didn't know, instead of the ones you did.

Being nervous is normal.

Practice makes perfect and this is all I can say!

I solved more than 2200 questions and read all the rationale behind the answers.

By the way, I was an LPN before becoming an RN.

whagkamilculit,its been a long minute since I took my state boards,but Id suggest,number one Try to RELAX !Its much easier to recall when you are not stressed.Also get a good night sleep prior to the exam.I hope this advice helps.Good Luck!

It's been a while but I still remember the fear. Get the most recent NCLEXPN book and take all the test, only once. About 2 days before you are scheduled, put the book on the shelf and leave it there. Go shopping, catch up with friends you didn't have time to talk with during school. Call you class buddies. Do something else besides opening that book. The night before, go to dinner or a movie or both. Take a warm bubble bath and get to bed at a decent time and pray. It worked for me and it will work for you. Just a little humor after the fact. When I finished my exam I got in my car and started to drive to my private duty job, I thought I was hungary, so I drove thru Wendy's without ordering then repeated that 3 more times at 3 other drive thru joints. It was the day before Thanksgiving and I was supposed to bring home oysters for my sister to make dressing for the turkey. Imagine my embarrasment when my sister opened the bag and saw shrimp instead of oysters. The whole day was a mess. 2 days later I bought a new living room set, a TV/VCR combo and a Refrigerator, all on credit and I didn't even have a job. Nor did I know if I was going to be working as a nurse anytime soon. The next Friday I got the call that I passed. Started working that following Monday. It felt good, but when i look back, I cannot believe I was so messed up.

So, If you start doing crazy things after you take your exam, you will know it is very normal. It's like we have been locked up for 2 years and someone finally opened the cage.

I worked through lots of problems with the Incredibly Easy PN program. I gots lots and lots wrong, but reading the rationales helped a lot. I was an A student, but I took an NCLEX-PN 2-day class and they gave me a great review packet with all the basic nursing info inside. Mostly I would say use your NCLEX books and read the reasoning behind the answers. Good luck! If it's any help, I felt the NCLEX itself was easier than the questions in the review books!
