This totally made my day Saturday- Young man came in with a dislocated knee. I'm in there with him, pain meds and assessment done. Told him my name, stayed with him, did all my stuff.
After his knee was reduced, he said, "Hey Andrea, ..." I don't even remember what else he said. I just remember he KNEW MY NAME! It so made me happy. Despite the fact this boy had been screaming in pain, he remember my name. I wish I had thanked him, but it didn't dawn on me til later what had happened. I get so irked at people who snap their fingers at me and yell "Hey nurse!" rudely. A please/thank you goes a LONG way!
Other highlight was sending a patient to jail after she was d/c'd. I figured out 'jail' was not under our dispo choices. lol I think I chose 'other facility'.

How cool Andrea! BTW - "jail" is one of my discharge options. We use it a lot.

I remember reading in that old Dale Carnegie book:
"a person's name, spoken directly, is like music to his or her ears."
(paraphrased).
It's so true. Just addressing a person by name, seems to convey you care enough to know what it is and use it properly. That, I suspect, is why you felt so good in this case!

It makes a lot of difference, doesn't it? That is nice to see that someone has manners from time to time.
Entitled people are very annoying.
