The election 2024 Thread

I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

    Interesting read. Prior to 1972, presidential candidates were nominated in conventions composed of just  elected officials and party leaders. I was glued to TV for evening coverage from 1968 on and started voting in 1973.

    Are convention delegates bound to their presidential candidate?

    Unfortunately, those Republicans who had a conscious to vote with have left the party behind.  We are left with  the unconscionable dregs of MAGA.

    He accused Harris, without providing evidence, of covering up Biden's health and said she could not be trusted. He nicknamed her "Lyin' Kamala."

    It sounds like Trump's all out of "clever" new names to call his opponents.

    Sounds like Trump is pivoting to appeal to moderate or independent voters, right?

    Any day now, he's going to call her horse-face.

    The WDIV/Detroit News poll found that the presidential race is a dead heat between Trump, the Republican nominee, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee—with each receiving 41 percent of support.

    Among the Black voters surveyed, 82.1 percent supported Harris, 11.5 percent backed independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and none supported Trump.

    The poll surveyed 600 likely Michigan voters between July 22 and 24 and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points. It is unclear how many Black people were included in the sample, but it is likely to be fewer than 100 people given that Black residents make up 14 percent of Michigan's population.
