The election 2024 Thread

I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.

Get out the popcorn for this one.

Quote

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

I don't put much stock in polls, but this seemed significant:

I live in Michigan and  I have noticed that I'm seeing many less Trump signs than the last round.  Last time there was a house that had an enormous Woman For Trump banner that isn't here this time.  I live in a little blue bubble but have easy access to the country where Trump signs were everywhere last time but less plentiful now.  I allow myself to have hope now.

Don't believe every meme you see on social media.  My thoughts have always been "if it's too outrageous to be true, it probably isn't".  Everything I've read is that he said it's "not appropriate".  I need more than a meme.

It's an excuse.  He should debate the democratic nominee no matter who it might be and the time to schedule that is now.  He should try to brush up on policy discussion this time.

He doesn't have any "policies" to brush up on.  He has no philosophy of why government even exists.  He's too uninformed to have any policies and just goes with whatever synapse is firing at the time, screams it out loud and his minions think those "deep thoughts" are policies.

Yep.

He's a cognitive and mental health mess.  The voting public needs that split screen comparison.  Now that he's got everyone's attention on the cognitive function of elderly men, he's going to have to navigate that scrutiny too.

I didn't say it wasn't.  Clearly they don't want him to debate Harris, and least not now.  My issue was with the meme.

BS to that.  He clearly has his agenda laid out and people like what he's saying.  Pay attention.  It was a mistake to think so in 2016 and it is now again.

There was no formal Republican platform in 2016.  If you think he has a platform now, read it.  There isn't a single explanation  how he plans to actually solve his list of greivances.  An agenda with no ideas how to proceed doesn't count for anything in my book.  He and his lackies he picks have neither the inclination, intelligence or will to do the hard work.  He thinks that destroying our infrastructures (literally and metaphorically) are the path to success.  Whether people like or not is pretty irrelevant to the quality of the candidate.  We don't have to win by a lot, we just have to win.....just like the last time.

The RNC platform now, under the direction of Lara Trump, is filled with random capitalization and odd punctuation.

Fair enough but clearly you're old enough to have experienced campaigns from candidates that babble on a make promises but don't say how they are going to do it.

Also, look to the past.  He most likely will take a lot at what Biden bills that passed he can undo same as he did in 2017.

I guess Vance's wife is getting some heat from white supremacists.  He is getting some flack for merely saying he loves his wife even though she's not white but doesn't seem to condemn the white supremacists.  Meh.....not a controversy to me.
