Certainly, we all have been in that position or know of someone who has,or it's going through it at the moment. However, don't despair, I have no doubt that you'll get a position sooner than you think, stay strong. I'll keep you in my prayers as I send you hugs from across the miles...Aloha~

Happy Birthday!!
Been there and done that......I know the feeling of despair all too well. But it DOES get better!! I was in your position a couple of years ago at age 51; unemployed because I was injured and couldn't go back to floor nursing, and thinking I was washed up. In October of 2010 my dream job came along, and I've gotten to stretch and grow in so many different ways that I still can't believe it. I even turned down a promotion a couple of months ago because I love where I am.
Trust me: if you don't give up, something good will happen. In the meantime, I'm glad you feel free to come here and vent......we're here anytime you need us.

Love you Viva- you have the best wisdom! Missing "All Nurses" but am back. I can say, it does get better. I've struggled in FL, but am thankful and blessed and never have regretted career choice. I say those of us "old timers" need to encourage our new colleagues.

happy birthday! have you considered pursuing a different avenue within the nursing field?
i was in a very similar boat 4 years ago when i stumbled upon emr support. if you are able to travel, even if you can't travel at this time, check your area's hospitals or consulting firms across the country and see if any place close to you is implementing electronic medical records. the field is diverse and a very hot employment prospect. pm me if you have any questions. good luck...

Happy Birhday! Sorry you're going through such a trial at this time. Try to be positive, there is always something to be positive about and thankful for, somewhere, someone has it way worst than you could even imagine (I've been through some dark times in my life as well and this is what helped me) so even though where you're at right now isn't exactly optimal, it's still better than someone else has it somewhere else (think 3rd world country). I know it's hard to make your mind do that and it certainly takes conscious thought but it actually does help and I agree with the other posters, something good is going to happen, it could be just around the corner when you feel like you can't go on anymore. Remember, just like the good times don't last forever, neither do the bad times! Change is inevitable!

I know, I know. Turned 50 this year and I never thought when I went into nursing that I would be in this kind of shape financially at this age. What a shock. Looking for something better but everything around here seems to be part-time. Why could it not have been that way when my son was little? Now when I need full time the only places hiring are the notorious places where no one stays.
Happy Birthday. The good news is you have many years ahead of you and you are not alone. We middle of the road nurses are a majority.

Aviationurse,
I am a student nurse, and my class just finished a section on "Crisis." Crisis is not an event, it is an emotional response, according to our textbook by Vacarolis. A crisis is supposed to be self-limiting, lasting from 4 to 6 weeks, and then the person will emerge from the crisis a) functioning at a higher level than pre-crisis; b) functioning at the same level as pre-crisis; or c) functioning at a lower level than pre-crisis. Alot depends on the assessment they get from their nurse or care-giver and the interventions they receive. I hope you find/take part in some positive interventions and emerge even better than before.
Happy birthday,
