Sudafed

Does anyone know if this is still available over the counter? I thought I heard where now a prescription is required.

Hi

I use sudafed.

The old sudafed is still available, here in Illinois---however, you need to ask the Pharmacist. It is kept behind the Counter. You need to sign for it & there is only a certain amount you can buy per month.

I don't need a prescription for it, tho.

Here in the Chiocago area, not all Pharmacy's carry it--they don't want to bother with the paper-work.

Plain old Sudafed is the ONLY drug that helps me with my various allergies.

sudafed is still available OTC but i know in FL you have to go to the pharmacy counter and sign it out and give them your driver's license #, name and address and they monitor how many boxes you buy a month, i think it is limited.

It's the same way in Louisiana, you have to ask for it and sign. I'm told it's one of the ingrediants used to make crystal meth.

Same here in NC, can ask the counter for it, and sign for it. I think you can only buy 3 packs a month, and you have to be 18 to buy it.

Meth is a big problem here. Last time I bought a Sudafed equivalent I had to sign for it.

I wonder how this is affecting sales for the company? And, how are the Meth makers obtaining their ingrediants these days? Just curious...

Probably over the internet, with no ID or hassle required.

Many states have passed similar laws, which probably only affect law-abiding citizens with colds. I doubt that the meth makers are suffering because they are limited in quantities of Sudafed they can purchase at Wal-Mart. This type of legislation drives me nuts. It likely has no impact whatsoever on ilegal drug manufacturing, but it creates the appearance that the lawmakers are "doing something".

I heard them remark on a news program that the precautions are actually working at present and the number of home grown meth labs is greatly decreased. I must say that human nature being what it is I wouldn't be surprised if people eventually found a way around the tightning of standards.

and it could have been a self congratulatory new release with little basis in fact......

Sudafed PE, the stuff that's available directly off the shelf, does NOTHING to help my sinuses. I might as well pop a marshmellow for all the help it gives me.

I live in Colorado and it's the same thing as outlined above with all the ID and paperwork and signing and timetables. I don't mind, if it really is helping with the meth problem.

I know you've seen images of what meth does to people, but here's a reminder. Be warned, it's really brutal:

I do not think that the amount of Sudafed or its generic for legal use has declined a whole lot, since you can still buy it in all states with some restrictions on age and amount.

As far as the illegal amount of sales having dropped, the companies should have realized that this sale increase was due to Meth manufacture and taken steps to prevent the miss-use.

And I hope that the Meth makers can not find their ingredients anyplace.

It's kept behind the counter in N.Y. .....sign for & show I.D. here as well...Aside from being an LPN charge on a 70 bed MICA (mentally ill, chemically addicted) unit, I am an EMT-I & because of that, had the opportunity to attend a training on meth clan labs, given by the NYS police...it seems that with the increasing restraint on the sale of sudafed, the US production of meth has decreased quite abit, but it has increased the production, distribution & sale of meth from Mexico.

It's the pseudoephedrine that meth manufacturers are after. I thought all states now required it to be signed for and only a certain amount is allowed per person.

All I know is that it is a pain in the neck for allergy sufferers!
