Stethescope

This is not an earth shattering post but I am in need of a new stethescope and want to get one that is crystal clear and good for both peds and adults. I have recently worked neonatal and pediatrics so have used a pediatric littman which I totally LOVE but it is not very functional on anyone over 10 years of age. What is your favourite?

Please try a search for "stethoscope"....there are tons and tons of posts about them. If after you read some of them and have questions I'm sure we would be very happy to answer them for you.

well, this is my personal opinion so take it for what it is worth..

i suggest the Littmann Cardiology III... It is an awesome set of ears!!

very versatile and can be switched from adult to peds in like 0.2 seconds!

it is one of my best friends~~

I agree, heard nothing but good things about the cardiology III wrt both peds and adults.

I have both the Cardiology III and the Master Cardiology. I prefer the Master, I have no trouble listening to little lungs and hearts.

has anybody ever gotten flack for owning a top notch steth? Just curious about comments like "you're just a nurse, you don't need a master cardiology!" I haven't heard anything but have always wondered if going that big would come across as pretentious. Any comments?

well airforcern2b...

you probably won't hear that because the better scope you have, the better you can do assessments.. if you do ever hear it, i will bet you 10 to 1, that it is because whoever said it is jealous because you have a better scope than them..

Owning a decent scope is not something you get grief over. You just get people trying to "borrow" your scope. Hardest part about having a decent scope is keeping it!!!

I have a Cardio III. Hate the master, can't hear worth a darn with it.

I have a Master classic II Black Edition, I can hear in a BUSY Level I trauma E.R., I can here in the back of an ambulance doing 70mph and I can hear it in the Chopper.

IMO those who "NEED" a $200+ Sethescope to hear lung sounds/assesments needs re-evaluate their own assesment skills.

Imo those who need a $200+ stethoscope need to reevaluate there brains.

Just becasue a less expensive scope is the most effective for you, does not mean that scope will be effective for everybody else.

OP, if you are still in the market for a new steth, then I would HIGHLY recommend an Ultrascope. I can hear so well and have no problems doing so. I orignally bought one when I did peds and was so pleased with it. The CV surgeon there came to do a consult on one of his kids in the ER and forgot his steth. He asked to borrow mine. I let him, and when he gave it back, he was telling me what great sound it was and wanted to know where to get one. Let me tell you, the adult one is just as fabulous as well. According to the company, the steths are supposed to be cardiology quality. You do have to be careful because the heads are large and kinda heavy. They are reasonably priced and so worth it. They also have one which can be used for peds or adults. I got it, and so glad I did. You can now get them at most medical supply companies or go to ultrascope.com Good luck!
