Statistics

Anyone else taking statistics this semester? Classes started today and I'm already feeling overwhelmed!

Shows how well I learned -- I mixed up descriptive and inferential :)

Well, I have my first test next week.

How is everyone else doing?

Whew...we're doing probability stuff now. It's kind of confusing, but I finished 2 homework assignments and it's starting to sink in.

Well, I just had my first test, and I got a 100. It was about the differences between inferential and descriptive statistics, knowing how to construct frequency distributions (calculating relative frequencies, midpoints), and making ogive and frequency polygon graphs. This wasn't too bad, but I see the next chapter is about central tendency measures and the standard deviation and the variance.

Oh that stuff is easy! Standard deviation, etc. If you are allowed to use your calculators, they do all the work!

Yeah, we just had a test on standard deviation. It was multiple choice. For one question, I got 1.549 on the calculator. The answer choices were 1.5 or 1.6. Which one is right?

I would think the answer is 1.5, since the answer choices round off to one decimal place. If you got 1.559 on your calculator, I think that would be 1.6.

Grr. Then I got that one wrong. I put 1.6 since the 9 would round the 4 up to a 5, which would round the 5 up to a 6. I couldn't remember a rule about how far back to go.

yay! I got a 97 on my first test... just one simple error! I just might make an "A"!!!

LOL

I wound up with a 97 on my first test, too! I'm not sure which question I got wrong, so I STILL don't know the right answer to my question. Heh

Congrats on your 97!!

Watch out for probability. I had well over 100% (test scores and extra credit) until I took the exam for probability. Ouch. Not in the triple digits anymore.

We just had our test on probability tonight. There were a few questions I wasn't sure about, but overall it wasn't bad. The teacher said she'll post grades tonight, so i'm waiting!
