Statistics

Anyone else taking statistics this semester? Classes started today and I'm already feeling overwhelmed!

Im taking statistics this semester... my first day of class my proff told us his definition of stat...

He says you have a BIG pile of info and all stat does is take that BIG pile of info and try to make sense of it.

My bf took stat at Texas A&M and of all the math classes he took he said that stat was the easiest. Granted he is a math person, but that was the only math class he had a high A average going into the final... all his other math classes he was border A/B towards the end of the semester

That does sound like a good description of stats. :D If it is just USING forumlas, I don't think it will be so bad. If I have to memorize all the formulas...that will make it more challenging!

I'm taking stat right now. It seems easy so far! Just basic math and the calculator does all the work.

My class still hasn't had any assignments yet. I'm starting to wonder when our teacher will give us assignments!

If you did okay in algebra, I think you'll be okay with the math.

:yeahthat:

You will need to understand the nursing journals, and you will use it yourself in Nursing Research class if you take any grad. level classes.

Looks scarier than it is. I loved this class!

Well, the first homework assignment wasn't too bad. We just had to show that we knew the difference between between the different type of statistics. I haven't even had to use a calculator yet!

How is everyone else?

I took stats with a really wierd teacher who made it way harder than it was. The only thing I took away from it was that it could be helpful when you are doing research. I think using stats is a good way to determine wether or not a study or journal is valid enough to use and a good way to help you interpret the data. Other than that, it is as easy to learn as any other math class, if you practice you'll be fine.

It is frustrating when a bad teacher has so much impact on a class!

Thanks for the info :D

I am also taking stats this semester and I just had my first class today. I am also a bit scared about this course, because numbers and me are not best friends. The professor seemed very nice and approachable. It does seem like its mostly memorizing forumlas and plugging in numbers, but who knows, only time will tell. If anything we can try to help each other out this semester.

Well, I have a few assignments under my belt. I haven't had to pick up a calculator yet. So, that's not bad so far ;)
