Spring 2010 Graduates

I just wanted to start a check-in thread for all those heading into their last semester of nursing school and will be finishing up in the Spring 2010 semester.

What type of clinical areas will you experience during your last semester?

Does your program have a preceptorship during the last semester? If so, in which area would you like to do your preceptorship?

What smilie represents how you feel about starting your LAST semester?

Yes. I'm trying to kick but in med/surg so that I'll be allowed to do my preceptorship in the ICU.

We take our preceptorship during the first half of the final semester. I'll be in the cardiac ICU at a hospital that specializes in hearts! I couldn't be more excited!

To be honest, I'm not totally sure. I was more focused on getting through NUR203. I know we'll be on the med/surg unit. I'm going to have clinical at this HUGE hospital and I'm more nervous about the parking there and finding the correct floor than anything else. lol

I am going to do Med/Surg because I really need the skills practice (every time I had an IV in Med/Surg 1 to start, they would go and d/c it (also was supposed to d/c an NG tube one morning but the noc. shift thought they'd be nice and do that) so I actually chose Med/Surg. I also know that the hospital is more likely to be hiring for that unit and I figure if I get my foot in the door maybe there's a higher chance they will look closer at my application...I can be hopeful. With the economy and shortage of jobs right now and more than likely in the same in May, I am doing everything possible.

I'm doing a dance!! I just accepted a job on a busy surgical unit !!

Count me in!

I have another 4 weeks of clinicals again at Regions hospital, no specialty per se, but because it's a major hospital, we get a good variety of experience.

I plan on requesting my preceptorship at HCMC, you can only do psych there, but that's what I want. I feel really fortunate I have had clinicals at major hospitals and have gotten to do a lot, which has been a big confidence booster.

I'm not 100% sure but we'll be doing med-surg/critical care, peds (I think psych and outpatient) and that's it.

Yes, we have preceptorship! Yay! I would like to go to the ICU. If I can't get ICU, then SAC but ICU is where I want to work when I graduate.

It is somewhere between really excited and scared out of my mind....*wine:grad:
