hello everyone. i have a little problem and i need your opinion.

okay i am a senior lpn student (male) and will be graduating in 5-6 weeks.

today at school, we were doing the ekg return demonstration. i was the first one to finish and was helping another male student understand how to get the hr from the 6-second grid. i was facing this student and giving him all my attention when all of a sudden this woman (a classmate) strike me on my right shoulder for no reason at all and hit my clavicle and made this “bang” sound. she caught me off guard and it hurt like hell and i was about to hit her back (reflex) in the face then realized this was a woman and i should not hit her back. i cursed at her and asked why the hell she hit me for? and she said “oh you cannot take a joke?” and i was like that was not a joke because it hurt me and i don’t even joke with you like that. and she was like “oh so you can play joke on everybody and you cannot take a joke”. and i was like first of all yes i play joke sometimes with my friends but i don’t do physical joke and you are not my friend and you don’t know me well enough to hit me like that. and she said “you are not man enough if you think that hurt”

mind you she is like my height, 5’11, muscly, and she punched like a guy.

anyway, that was 6 hours ago and i am now at work and my shoulder is sore and painful. she must have hit a bad spot. so do you think i should report this incident to my teachers and program coordinator if it continues to hurt up to tomorrow when i go back to school? 5 other students witnessed this and were shocked as well as to why she did that. i don’t want to look like a “sissy” because i cannot take a punch from a woman. i would not be so mad if it is not hurting like this. i don’t know why because i used to fight with my brother all the time and we would hit each other. but today this lady hit me in the bad spot and it hurt like hell. i don’t even talk to this woman because i did not click with her and she is so loud in class. sorry for this long story. i don’t know if i should report her or not to get this incident in writing just in case the pain continues and gets worst. but at the same time i don’t want her not to graduate because of this record. what do you guys think?

thank you,

angel

......... While I don't "get" her sense of humor it appears that she was "joking" and probably felt free to do so because as she said you often joke and prank. As for the actual injury-it sounds like she really packed a punch and you'll have a good bruise. If it IS more then that then you would be covered by your school's insurance and you need to report this first thing in the morning.I doubt it is more then a bad bruise...As for your statement that you "don't want her to graduate" is that based simply on this incident? Or the fact that she is "loud"? That sounds really vindictive to me-I think your pride is hurt more then your body. I don't think any of the above is grounds for her being dropped from the program-if your shoulder hurts in the morning and you think you need an xray you'll have to go to the head of your program. The program may have a zero tolerance policy on this type of rough housing so you may get your wish.Good luck-I can't stand people that get into my space and I detest being play slapped/punched or snuck up on and startled. It usually only happens once because I make my feelings very very clear but some people behave this way all of the time....IMHO they need to grow up...

He didn't say he didn't want her to graduate, he said the opposite.

It sounds like battery.

hello everyone. i have a little problem and i need your opinion.

you say you'll be graduating within 6 weeks?

if this is true, it's my honest opinion that you should brush this situation off and let it go. you only have a short amount of time to deal with this misguided classmate and her poor attempts at humor, so i truthfully believe that you may wish to let this incident slide. you've got to carefully pick and choose your battles in nursing, because every little thing is not worth the fight. you'll become physically tired, emotionally drained, and targeted by management if you report every single wrongdoing in a hospital or facility (and there are plenty of them), so i wouldn't get into the habit of reporting people now.

if she does it again, i would report it. for now, i would not worry about it, and just focus on the impending graduation. in 6 weeks, you probably won't see her again, so don't create hard feelings by fueling the fire.

I Agree with TheCommuter on this one........just let it slide. JMHO.

Pull her aside and show her your bruise then tell her that you don't want her to be expelled six weeks before graduation so you are going to do her a favor and not report her. Strongly advise her that in the future she may not be so lucky if she does something stupid like that again.

I think you should let this go. Now that she knows how you feel about her it probably won't happen again. You guys will be graduating soon and the last thing you need is any kind of problems that will prevent that.

thank you everyone. i decided not to say anything as it will probably affect me as well. i am fine now and there is no more pain. i saw her this morning and she didn't say anything to me and i didn't say anything to her. it is better this way. now she won't bother me any longer especially she now knows how i feel towards her. she is probably just jealous of me because i got the highest clinical grade in this rotation and and top 3 in my msii final. hopefully, i don't see her anymore after graduation. thank you.
