Shoes!

Published

After four days of working, my feet kill. I am a new nurse looking for shoe advice. I know I want a sneaker and I heard New Balance are good..but I'm not sure what model. Any advice?

I have been wearing the Easy Spirit Anti-Gravity sneakers for years. They are very comfortable if you want to try on a pair. A pair of cushioned insole hiking socks are worth the extra money; you can find those at outdoor sport stores.

ditto on the good socks. Shoes are very personal. Keeping at in until you find your best fit. Some swear by Danskos, others hate 'em. Some insist on tennis/training shoes. Then there is the croc crowd.

Just be really glad that you can choose and don't have to wear white oxfords. (tip 'o the hat to those before us).

I used to wear crocs, now I can't stand them on my feet. The newest shoe that I like to wear to work is MBT, yes they are pricey, but I'm willing to pay the price in order not to hurt.

Like another poster said, shoes are very personal, what works for one may not work for another.

I found some online for $89.90--is the sizing pretty true to what you normally wear?

I swear by my New Balance 550 shoes. They are comfortable, and I work 16 hour shifts with no foot pain or soreness.

Dansko sizing is weird. I'd go to a shoe store and try some on to find your size then buy them on-line--that is a good price you found.

I have a couple of pair of Danskos and I love them, but their styles really vary size wise.

The shoe just like somebody said depends on the individual.I have somebody that said that [?Dr skools] is good for her legs since she has arthritis.I really will like to know the right one to buy if not trial and error.

I have a heel spur and I have found my nursemates are wonderful -- no foot pain!!!

I wear a good walking/running shoe/sneaker--I used to balk at the price of really good shoes until I rationalized that I do wear them 5 days a week--every week and I don't let them wear down- I get new shoes often--I also wear support hose--you can get some good knee-hi ones--I've been nursing for over 40 years and my feet/back and legs are still holding up pretty well !!!!!

I am part of the Croc crowd. I have always worn good quality shoes without problems, but as I get older, I find my feet hurt at the end of the shift. I tried Z-coils and they were so heavy, it make me feel even more tired. I tried the Crocs on a whim last year and that is all I wear now.

I have some of the cheap knock offs for around the house, but wear the real ones at work. I got the ones without the holes for better "infection control". They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned, and don't know how I got thru a 12 hour shift without them.

It's only a $40 investment, if you don't like them, then wear them around the house, or sell them to someone who wears them.

There is a difference in the real ones and the knockoffs though, so if you want to give them an honest shot, then get the real ones.
