Shift differentials?

Just curious... Is it common for a facility to offer shift differentials for evenings/nights/holidays?

Im 26, single and don't have kids, so I usually end up working alot of holidays and shifts that everyone else wants off... which I don't mind, but a little bump in pay is kinda nice!

My hospital does not offer shift differentials but I think that is because we are paid 18.00hr (new hire) on 3-11pm shift

Every hospital I have worked at gives shift differentials for evenings/nights. At one hospital, I was a PCNA and I worked nights...our shift differential was $1. At another hospital where I worked a tech, our evening differential was $0.50 and night was $1. I think for nurses it was a little more, but not much. Where I work now as an RN, my evening differential is close to $4. and night differential (from 0000-0700) is close to $7. Weekends are like $5 and $8 for me. This is why I don't want to go to days!

$10/hr extra for weekends and time and a half for holidays. Guess which shifts I prefer?

At my hospital its an additional 6% of your hourly rate added per hour for 3p-11p shift, 8% for 11p-7a shift and then everyone, including 1st shif,t gets an additional 8% per hr for weekends (on top of the shift differentials). Oh and holidays are double time and a half if worked

I work straight nights, 7p-730a. I get $3 until 2300 and $4 from 2300-0700. We get $4 more for weekends, so $7 and $8. I came from a union hospital that did straight day and night diffs (no evenings, unless you actually worked that specific 8 hr shift, which most worked 12s). We got $4.65 for nights and an additional $5 on the weekends.

Ours is a percentage of base pay. 20% if you work at least 4 hours past 6pm. This includes all your time. I work 11am to 11pm and get the full differential for all 12 hours. It 30% for the weekends. Time and a half for holidays. Also, if you are a permanent off shift, you get full differential for holiday and vacation pay.

Just curious, but is yours a union facility? I know of union places where those who got shift diff for the shifts they worked also got it for PTO, but not non-union.

Sasha said her facility used to do this (pay the shift diff for PTO) but then dropped it because of budget cuts....place I worked must have claimed that from the get-go, because they NEVER paid it :(
