Shadow People/ghosts at work

Published

Hi all!

I've worked in a long term care setting for the past 13 years.

I work as an RN in a nursing home & I frequently see shadow people/ghosts. It's a big black shadow that darts across the hall or hovers over a patients bed. It's only seen for a few seconds & disappears as you do a double take. The patients don't necessarily die or anything after I (and other staff members) see these strange apparitions.

Have any of you seen these things before?? What are they, exactly??

I've googled it, but just wanted other opinions from nurses who have seen the same thing! What do YOU think they are? Patients that have passed? Demons? Spirit guides?

It's crazy!

Growing up, my best friend's Dad worked in LTC. He told us about a blind resident who would occasionally become agitated and then say "there goes that little guy" from out of nowhere.

Every time he said that, another resident on the floor would pass away.

There is a thread on here called "What's your best nursing ghost story?" where people have shared stories like yours. Check it out!

I don't know what they are, but I saw one at the hospital I work at. Half of the staff has seen it at one point or another.

seen them so often in the hospital, not so much in nursing homes, but I have seen them as well. I got so they don't "bother" me, I just nod and go on!!!!

I used to see them when I worked hospice. I don't have any creepy story about it.

I see them (dark shadows) often. I usually work overnights on med-surg. A couple of times I've heard sounds, like a low murmuring. I try to not think about them and ignore it. One night, I was alone on a floor when the call light went off in our "hospice" room. No patient was in that room. Unsettling.

I worked in LTC for many years, and would see white images floating through the hallways on the colored monitors all the time. Never saw dark shadows.

One floor I worked on during my secretary years, I heard the same low murmuring as you did. I'm always amazed at tv shows that claim to hear ghosts and make out what they say. I've heard the murmuring, it's unintelligible, but it sounds like someone is right there speaking. the first time I heard it, I thought someone was standing behind something (we would have flowers and pamphlets and stuff on the nursing counter, always something to block your view) and I peeped and even asked "can I help you?" LOL. then I realized I was alone at the desk. it would happen once every blue moon. the dark shadows I've seen. Just like OP - very quick, sometimes very large black shadows, sometimes very small, but blink and you'll miss it. It's never like in TV shows where you see the actual person, it's just an amorphous black shadow.
