Seriously what are the chances of getting in?

Seems to me like the chances of getting into a nursing school are slim to none with my 9 withdrawals and 5 Fs (and the Fs were there because I didn't attend class). I seriously messed up at my community college I now have a daughter and I am enrolled in a four year school. I'm doing well and I'm getting all A's. I am a CNA and I would really love to pursue a BSN in nursing. It just really sucks that I didn't take school seriously when I should have now I am paying for the consequences :-/. I am considering the LPN-RN bridge I feel that will help my situation a little to get my foot in the door at least. Has anyone been through this and has actually gotten into a nursing program? Any advice? Thanks

Kind of in a similar situation. Didn't do so great straight out of high school. And took most of my pre reqs twice. Smh. So now I'm in LPN school with 7 months to go in a 12 month program. Plan on bridging next year hopefully.

I would definitely apply and just see what happens. I was in a similar situation and had great grades at the current school but not so good grades at the previous school I attended for 1 semester. My nursing school had an area to make a personal statement, so I wrote about my situation and how I had grown from it and how I am more focused on my education now and that my new grades reflected that. It must have worked because I was accepted. So as long as your other grades are very good and you do very well on the entrance exams I am pretty sure that one of the schools you apply to will decide to give you a chance, especially with your CNA experience.

Also, not sure how long it has been since you went to school the first time, but if it has been ten years or more there is some way that you can pretty much have those grades taken off your records somehow. I haven't done it personally, but I know that its an option.

I ended up doing an academic fresh start.

i flunked out of my pre reqs and had a crap GPA as well

took me 2 years to pull it back up. i got rejected once and had to take some filler classes to pull it up a little higher.

I'm now finishing my first semester of a 5 semester BSN program.

Don't give up. Just work on your study habits and don't let anyone tell you you can't.

It's a Texas thing :) I'm sure some other states have it, too. But everything 10+ years old has to be erased...no picking and choosing.

If you just retake the classes the first grade won't count. It will still be on your transcript but won't account for your overall GPA .

It depends on the individual school. My school grants academic fresh start at any point in ones educational career. Wether classes were 10 years ago or last semester. But its only granted once. Check with your school so you know what's best for you.

Is your school in nyc that sounds perfect for me

Just do well in your pre-reqs. I goofed off the first degree and only had a 3.2 when I graduated, which included a semester with two D- and one F. I didn't care; a degree was a degree, you know? When I went back for nursing school I studied HARD and I aced my prerequisites with mostly As and one B+ (physiology). Nursing schools will weight your nursing prerequisites heavily. They also look at improvement. I got in first try when I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get in at all. My personal letter explaining why I did so badly but what my plan was for improving myself may have helped as well.
