I went on a interview today at a nursing home and I was given a written skills test and to make a long story short I did'nt get the job because I got the following questions wrong and I just wanted to know if anyone out there might know the answers so I have them for future reference. thanks
1. what does a picture of a cactus posted on a residents buliten board mean?
2. what does a picture of a water can mean
3. what does a picture of a bumblebee mean

I worked as a CNA in nursing homes for 6 years before becoming an RN and I have NEVER seen ANY of those signs!
Did you ever figure out what they did mean?

Never heard of them. Where they specific for the facility?
i've been thinking about this for awhile now and this is what my answers would have been.
1. what does a picture of a cactus posted on a residents buliten board mean? resident has dry skin or is allergic to wool (wool is so itchy and prickly!)2. what does a picture of a water can mean resident is incontinent or need a urinal on siderail whenever in bed3. what does a picture of a bumblebee mean resident is either sweet as honey or is combative and can 'sting like a bee!'

i really don't think that this was a valid reason not to hire you. sounds like a bunch of malarky to me!!!
Having thought about it I'm sure I've seen something about this on my travels in cyberspace but I can't see that this is a valid reason not to employ you as each facility probably has it's own signs and symbols.
I would have gone for Cactus......dehydration.
Watering can........incontinence.
Bumblebee........combative sounds good!

We used to have a form for bladder retraining. If the resident was dry, the CNA would circle the picture of a cactus..if wet, they would circle the picture of a water drop. I found it condescending and demeaning so we stopped using it.
I've been in the business for 25 years and I guess I wouldn't have gotten hired there either because I wouldn't know what those things mean.

I don't know about the other 2 but the honeybee = thickened liquids
I would think then that would be 'honey thickened', what about those that need 'pudding thick' liquids or 'nector thick' liquids? That could get confusing - at least for me and my simple mind!
I got a couple responces that make sence i guess thanks

What about a cactus being on a fluid restriction? Because they don't need much water?
