Schooling advice needed

I am going to be starting an ADN program soon. Eventually I want to get my DNP. I currently have a non-nursing bachelor's degree (in biomedical science). What would you recommend as the best path from ADN to DNP? (I also applied to an ABSN program but won't know if I've been accepted until after the new year.)

Specializes in Peds, Neuro, Orthopedics.

A DNP in what? There's so many avenues.

Specializes in ED.

Why start at ADN? If it is a cost issue I totally see it but since you already have the bachelors you could do a direct entry MSN first?

If you couldn't do a direct entry masters, and you will know the first of the year, then a second bachelors as BSN? You could research accelerated programs for people who currently have a bachelor's degree...

You have far more than what would be required for an associates holding a bachelor's degree. So either way, I would think it would be the nursing courses that you would need to complete--and perhaps only some of them, as I am sure that you must have the sciences down pat.

The standard seems to be BSN. It may not take you very much more education to achieve this.

By the way, good for you for the biomedical science degree!! WOOO HOOO!! Nicely done.

I would skip the ADN and go right for an accelerated bachelor's program. Which I think you said you applied for. Are there any other accelerated bsn programs in your area you could apply to?

Then work for a bit, then apply to DNP programs.

I have not yet decided what to pursue a DNP in; I'm hoping that after working as a nurse I'll get a better idea of that. Thanks for all of your advice. For now I think my plan is to do the ABSN if I get accepted but if I don't I'll still stick to the ADN. I want to get my career in nursing started now that I know it's what I really want to do and not wait forever to get accepted and have to make another big move. If I end up doing the ADN, I'll do an RN to BSN program, work for awhile, then pursue the DNP. Otherwise I'll do the ABSN, work for awhile, then pursue the DNP. Thanks again.

What about skipping the nursing pathway altogether and go for a PA?
