Rob's CPNE DVD

  • Moderator

Someone here asked me to post a review of Rob's CPNE DVD once I received it and watched it, so here is my opinion ...

It's great! :)

There has been some criticism because he's charging money for it, instead of posting it on YouTube or something similar for free. But frankly, I have a slow-ish internet connection at home (WildBlue satellite; we don't have cable or DSL out in the woods on the side of a mountain), and watching it on YouTube would make me insane with the lag time, plus I would exceed my monthly download allowance in just a few days. It's a large file, and would be too big for YouTube. I really needed it to be something I could watch while NOT online. He's offered it as a download (AVI file that will play in Windows Media Player) or as a regular DVD, which worked great for me. Providing both formats, along with setting up a website and allowing large downloads (lotsa bandwidth!), are not free, or even cheap; thus, the charging.

So I have my laptop set up in my practice room so that I can have the DVD going while I walk through my areas of care (AOCs). I have a dummy and all the lab stations in that room. I can post pictures of my set-up, if anyone's interested. It's kinda goofy. :)

Watching another student go through the AOCs has been very helpful for me -- the only alum I personally know did her CPNE in 2001, and doesn't really remember every nitty-gritty detail. So for me, watching Rob's DVD is like practicing with another student.

What Rob did was such a simple but smart thing! Setting up a mock PCS room with a dummy and doing the AOCs on a daily basis will reinforce good habits for the CPNE, and will make the AOCs very familiar when you're actually at the CPNE, doing the PCSs.

I give it two thumbs up. :)

Thanks Lunah! I'm definetly getting the video.

I want to comment about Rob's video. It is the best money I have ever spent.

When I started studying for this wonderful, might I add lovely CPNE, I bought every tool I could find. I even have an IV pole.LOL Whatever, anyway, I became familiar with a poster on a certain cpne support website whose name was Rob. He gave great tips and suggestions. He made me laugh in how he set up practice in a shed. I actually laughed out loud as I read it.

His suggestions made sense, and.....stuck to me. I printed his stuff out. Then something was said about making a dvd of the areas of care. So many people said yes yes. Me included... So Rob took the time to make a video of areas of care.

And yes, he charges for it. And to those who say, "well he is just trying to make money, or why doesnt he post it for free on youtube?" , I say to them, go for it, no one has done it yet, but most importantly, no one has done one AT ALL. Rob's is the first.

Now, is it good???? Let me say this. I am a disorganized person. I try to be organized. I do. I just didnt get that gene. I tried all sorts of ways to organize my study, to get a routine. I spent more time shuffling papers, flashcards, rolling my IV pole around, trying to get a plan. I got nowhere! So, when I received Rob's video, I started watching it minutes after tearing the envelope open. Almost immediately, I started smiling. Really really smiling. Like a big dope smiling.....my daughter was like "helloooo Mooommmmmm, are you okayyyy???"

As I continued to ignore the kids and my husband peeking in on my smiling, and watched the video(dvd), the weight that had been on me started to lift. I knew I found the tool I needed to pass the cpne. He goes thru each area of care with a way that I can understand, and do!!!!! He organized all the areas of care, all of what I had been trying to organize.....It is wonderful.........and well worth 10 times what he charges.

You will not be disappointed. It is wonderful!!!!!!! Best $40 ever spent.....

Oh sorry, go to

www.robscpne.com.

Best CPNE investment you will ever make..... I promise:nuke:

I'm new to the group -- also an EC student. I love the college & advisors and the route it provided for me to get my RN. I applied for my CPNE last month and now just waiting for a date & practicing. I've got my study guide printed out but am a bit paralyzed, just trying to focus on memorizing one thing at a time. I think this video might be very helpful. If anyone else is preparing for the CPNE and wants to keep in touch that would be fine by me!

Be sure to read the study guide alllllllll the way through, at least once. Then get cozy with Unit IV -- critical elements! :) I'm going in less than a month. Eeeek!

Where can you find Rob's CPNE DVD? Thanks! :nuke:

If you scroll back up about 3 posts, you'll see that Lisa B. has posted the link. :)

I just thought I would put in my 2cents:twocents::twocents: worth about the video. I test on friday and I bought it two weeks ago. The video is very good and very helpful, but for me it was a little too late. I had my own neumonics memorized and I would get side tracked when watching his video because i was trying to incorporate my own neumonics. My suggestion is buy it early in your studies and make sure you read your study guide! He has some great info but do not depend on it alone, there are a few things that are a little off but it is worth the $40. Best wishes and good luck!!!:nuke:

I too broke down and bought it after hearing such positive feedback. I have yet to be able to download (just purchased this am) it but I'm hoping it helps tie everything together b/c I'm a very visual learner and having a difficult time picturing all this in my head.

Susie, I'm a visual learner, too -- when I see something done, I remember it better! :) I think that's why I really like this particular tool. As someone else has said, I wouldn't rely on this alone, though I don't think anyone is expecting or trying to do so!! :)
