Resources for Birth Junkies

I call to order a meeting of birth junkies (insert AA joke here). First of all, brief required reading. I wanted to start a list of resources both online and off for people who love all things birth. This list can include books, journals, organizations, photography/art, websites (of course), birth stories!, etc.

Here's some basics with "dessert" at the end:

Alright, I got the ball rolling and I've got much more. I didn't even do movies and there are some real classics (hint:PBS). Bring out yer birth junkie material and share :)

Eek, I'm going to be the wet blanket here, but I do have to say--

The word "junkie" really sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me because I know some women--especially mothers--in recovery or otherwise with addictions find the word terribly offensive. Just FYI.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled and otherwise very interesting thread.

thanks,

Rebecca

there is a newsletter that comes quarterly called the new nativity ii, editor valerie nordstrom. i can't find the copy i had laying around here right now, but when i do, i'll try to remember to post the address. it prints unassisted childbirth stories.

you may not agree with ub, but it is an interesting read nonetheless. home birth doesn't seem so odd when you realize there are a lot of babies being born just fine with only their parents in attendance. (my twin 'a' was a ub by accident.) i think val's last 4 or 5 were ubs.

there are anual conferences for ub parents. this is a bigger group than most people realize. in states where midwifery is illegal, this is the only choice parents have for homebirth when they can't find a midwife willing to attend.

you can also try books by marilyn moran (if you like husband/wife birth) and spiritual midwifery by ina mae gaskin, which has lots of neat birth stories, if you don't mind the psychadelic 60's lingo. :1luvu:
