Remembering Numbers

  • Experts

I have a talent for remembering numbers and it's because of a systematic/associative approach.

For example, I remembered the member  @Guest856929's number by associating it with: My '85 Toyota pickup that I drove for nearly 20 years. Then: '69, the Summer of- I was 12 years old, I remember the Moon landing, Woodstock, and dropping Little Bro's bike off of the bride. And finally, '29 was the year my Dad was born, and today would have been his 92nd birthday!

I've committed to memory many people's licence plate numbers. I know how many revolutions of the chainring on my bicycle it takes to get up the mother of god hill.

I would say that I could remember, as a nurse, patient's seven digit numbers, but I afraid this thread would be moved into another forum because it would be on topic with nursing and patients.

Yeah. I remember numbers.

I remember birthdays. If I get to know you and we connect as friends, I'll remember your birthday. I know all my cousins dates, friends, childhood acquaintenances, etc. Sometimes, I'll note the day's date, and then thin, 'hmm? Sticking out in my mind. Whose birthday' Then I'll remember.

I'm also prob the only person in NJ who can recite personal driver's license number!!

(Imitating John Wayne) "Well, it's a darn good thing you're in New Jersey, because if you were in Illinois, this state wouldn't be big enough for the two of us.

Uh huh."

Concerned in my old age when they ask for my phone #, will give employers NPI number as needed it several times a week to negotiate out-of-network provider payments or setting up access to insurance companies/hospitals EMR websites.  However, cant remember my youngest sons cell phone as just hit his name on cell phone instead directly dialing #.

I used to be able to remember birthdays, and the ones I knew back then, I still know, but I've slowed down about being able to put new ones in. Oneof the things I hate about getting older.
