Really need advice!

The College Network wants you to think that you have to go through them to go through ISU, but you don't.

They will tell you whatever they need to to get you to sign a contract with them -- check out for yourself everything they tell you.

I met with TCN last week but did not sign. Its just seemed to expensive and I already owe $20,000 in student loans. I did a little reasearch and want to go directly through Excelsier. I have no idea how to get started. I plan on taking three class at my local CC over the summer and then I will need

Ethics, Micro and A&P and off course all my LVN-RN courses.

Any advise? Should I by pass summer school and take the other courses with excelsier?

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say that I am an Excelsior College Graduate 01/2008. I would highly recommend Chancellors Learning Systems. I NEVER purchased any text books or study materials from Excelsior. I only used study guides from Chancellors. I swear to you, the guides and the practice questions are right on the money. I took 6 exams in approximately 6 weeks. Some only 4 days apart. The study guides are thin and concise. In addition I attended a 5 day workshop for the CPNE offered by Chancellors in Fisher Indiana. It was EXCELLENT and I would have NEVER passed my CPNE without it. When I enrolled it costed about 275 per guide. And the guides all come with CD audio of all the materials in the book. When you are tired of reading, you can just listen. The hardest thing about Excelsior is the CPNE......it was the most stressful experience I have ever had in my life. I would much rather have done a clinical rotation for 3 months that to have had that 3 day experience. I literally thought I would have a stroke or heart attack. There really is a high failure rate......but people who attend Chancellors workshop have about a 96% passage rate. Excelsiors workshop has about a 68% pass rate but I heard it recently dropped into the high 40s. Excelsior is really a great option if you are motivated or a good crammer. I am a good crammer, but it has its drawbacks. Now I have to pass boards and I don't know a d**n thing. I now have to start all over studying for the boards, but at least the hardest part is over......I hope .

UPDATE!! UPDATE!! UPDATE I passed my RN NCLEX exam. Excelsior College is a very real option for those who are serious enough to pursue it. It worked for me and it can work for you too.

Hi, I signed on with TCN in Jan. 07, here it is April 08 and I have only completed Ethics Theory and Developmental Psych for my LPN to RN. I think it is a good program if you are a self study-type of person. I did OK with the above mentioned classes, but once I started Biology, A&P and Micro I threw in the towel. I thought about taking the Sciences elsewhere and transferring them into Excelsior, but that would take a year plus. A&P is a 2 semester class at my local Community College. So, I enrolled into a Nursing College in my city, and will be done with the whole thing Spring 2010. I am chalking it up to a loss, the 6,000.00 I am still financing thru TCN. My work now as an LPN will cover some tuition costs of my new school, then finacial aid, so hopefully I will not be out much. Bottom Line: TCN is good for those who can breeze thru study modules and test out. I know lots of people who have done it this way. You will find their success stories online. For me it did not work. You live, you learn. The easy way out was not so easy for me. Good luck. BTW- there are lots of negative opinions about TCN on this site. Like I said, it does work for some nurses, but NOT all. So sorry to hear about your losing motivation. Did you honestly think this would be "the easy way out" though? I'm sure you have read on the boards that it is HARD to self study. I'm thinking it's just less time consuming if you can test out fast, not easy? Correct me if I'm wrong. I want to start this program and need all the advice I can get. Hello Fancy Face. Thanks for thinking of me. I have been doing a lot of thinking lately on this subject. Thank you for your honesty. It sounds "good" to be able to get your RN this way and it does almost sound "easy" even though we all know that it is never easy to get something worthwhile. Just think of how hard it was to get our LPN. That was one tough year. But anyway, right now I am taking A&P at community college and struggling to maintain a B. I have decided to stick things out at my local college until next spring and see how I rate on the NET test. If I get accepted, I will continue through them, if not, I need to re-strategize!! So thanks for the offer of your books. See if someone else can use them. Too bad about your loss, though.:typing
