I have a question if anyone knows.. If we are using a 50cc bag of saline for flushes, how long is this bag good for? Once it has been used is it good until the expiration date or 28 days like a multidose vial? If anyone has any knowledge let me know!! Thanks

You would have to follow your protocol at your facility. Saying that though, I would think it would be good for only 24 hours once spiked.

24 hours. We use a 250cc bag and it usually doesn't even make it the full 24 hours before running out.

I agree with the 24 hours max as there is no preservative in the bag. You might try looking on INS site to see if there is a written standard. I think the site is www.ins1.org

We are not allowed to use them at all. I was told that this is due to increased chance of contamination with so many spikes. We can't even use half-full vials of 10cc saline... we must discard any leftovers.
