I was told by a surgeon that I was salacious. ( I had given birth 3 months prior and d/t breastfeeding had centerfold-sized breats)

In response to the thought that vegans wouldn't use E.coli based things, b/c it comes from an animal...Bacteria are not in the animal kingdom,they are in thier own, just like plants are in thier own, so why would it matter? And they aren't aerobic like most animals are, they are facultative anaerobes. When do vegans stop considering something an animal? I am curious.

I was married, had a good job, my own health insurance , a 1 1/2 year old boy, and I was pregnant. Husband became very abusive....had to flee the state and hide out until the custody hearing. I went on assistance and entered the address confidentiality program. The social worker helping me saw my wedding ring and made nasty comments about me having something like that while bieng on assistance. I kept my wedding ring b/c people tend to give my crappy looks for bieng pregnant without having one on. Dammed if you do dammed if you don't. There is no way to make everyone happy...some people get a high from bieng judgemental. I am now in nursing school but my kids still have state insurance. I can't afford it and the deadbeat ex isn't paying like he should. I cannot wait to get of state aid. I need it but the hell that people put you through makes it almost unbearable:dirty looks, s******ing, how can you afford that comments- it takes away your dignity.

As a pt I would not want a male to do my pelvic exams, be it an MD or an RN. I dont think he should without a chaperone. Working in a hospital I freqently hear male's describing thier female patients... anatomy. Men are more likely to sexually abuse than women are. Those are the cold hard facts. Stats show that women are more likely to be abused ( in america 1 outof 3 women are). to me that is a good enough reason to demand chaperones for males to do that type of care on a female pt. But male pt's should also be able to refuse pelvic care bieng done by a femae RN. Just because we medical professionals are clinical about the human body doesn't mean the patients are.

my worst code brown happened at home. I was changing the baby's diaper-holding the feet up to elevate his little hiney. I bent over to retrieve the diaper I dropped and was "shot" by projectile diarrhea. It was on my face and in my hair! I finished changing the diaper while I was dripping w/ poo and got in the shower to clean us both up. Then my little bundle of joy proceeds to let loose again- all over his momma! EEEW!:uhoh21:

I am so sorry for those that have miscarried and not recieved support. It is a terrible thing in the first place without making mothers feel worse by telling them to "buck up." My condolences to you all.

My daughter was only a few months old and was crying...before I could get to her my 2 year old son pulled up his shirt and tried to feed his sister:rotfl: (His father was not amused )

Nurse Goodnight, I said that I use school as a 50 hour work week. ( school MWF and Study T and TH)I see my children in the mornings and evenings(before and after school). My point is to get all your work done (studying)during the week so that you have the weekend just for family time. If I was not in school i would be at work the same amount of time instead. My children aren't bieng cheated. As a recent divorcee, I am trying to make a better life for my children by going back to school and finishing my degree. With appropriate time managment and support, the chilins can get the time and positive attention they deserve.:chuckle

It can be hard on the kids if you don't have enough help and good time management skills. If you can swing not working during nursing school, or working partime it makes it better for the kids. I treat school as a 50 hour work week and reserve the weekends for my chikdren . It works well. I don't even attempt to study while they are awake...it is too frustrating for all involved:rolleyes:

I have 2 kids, a 12 month old and a 35 month old . I just fnished my 2nd semester at UP. It is hard to find a balance b/w study/kids/alone time. It can be done but it hard. Reletives are a great resource! I wish you luck, you can do it!

I am not trying to justify a female only policy. I am saying that some women aren't comfortable with men doing thier OB care. I am a grown woman, and I advocated for myself not to have a male nurse for that particualar procedure. I hope I did not hurt the male nurses feelings. I apologized profusely to him, but I wouldn't let him check my cervix. I don't care if a male nurse or doc does other things(IV's etc), but I don't want one doing my Ob care. I personally had a bad experience w/ a male ob doc which is why I was nervous having another male check me. an estimated one out of 3 women in America have been sexually assaulted, this tends to make some women skittish ( I feel terrible that I might have made that nurse feel bad, It wasn't that he was less competent or a sexual predator, but due to previous experiences I was not able to let him do that part of his job.) I am just tryting to explain why some female patients aren't comfortable with a male nurse doing certain procedures.

Forgive me, but I have NOT taken fundamentals yet, I am a sophmore at the University of Portland. WE do not take it till our junior year. I was taught this in my first semester of fundamentals:rolleyes:{Quote}

StarletSky, are you a lactation consultant? You seem very knowledgable. I am not a nurse yet, and I worked for a lactation clinic. It was really hard when I heard moms not making good decisions for thier babies. Some mom's (one was an Ob Doc) left thier babies alone in running cars. How does a nurse remain composed and not let her feelings show? Do they teach tips in upper level nursing school?

I got an A in Anatomy and was allowed to be a teaching assistant. The TA's actually get to disect the new cadavar we recieved in a special disection course. We skin the whole body and remove all fat and other connective tissues so that the students just see organs, muscles, the cardiovascular system, and bones. I really liked learning off of our cadavers (once I got over the icky smell). But seeing the dead lady, intact, that I am supposed to dismember is alot harder than I thought it would be. I refuse to be in the room alone with her body. I thought I was a bada@@ fro taking the disection course, but it turns out I'm a wuss.

My boss was upset because the day after thanksgiving my wee one had pneumonia. She thought I was skipping out until I showed up in with a Radiology report from that day showing my child had pneumonia. Kids never get sick a convenient times.:stone Totally off thread but how do you approach someone to let your child crash thier Christmas? I might have to do that someday, but I want to do it tactfuly. Any suggestions?

Sometimes despite planning ahead things don't work out. As a single mom, who watched your kids on hristmas? Family? Sometimes people literally have NO ONE. That is when we act like the compassionate adults that we are and help out! I am not saying that just because you have kids you should automatically get a Holiday off..thats ridiculous. Sometimes people can't help things. I took off two days before christmas b/c my son had a fever with an ear infection. He had an allergic reaction to the meds and developed the worst case of hives his peds had seen in 20 yrs OVER CHRISTMAS. I had to bring in my sick one year old boy to PROVE to my boss that he was sick and I wasn't trying to skip out of working christmas:angryfire . Where is the compassion folks?

This story might be off thread... but when I had my daughter my labor partners where my:Grandmotheran Fnp and Nusing instructer, my aunt an RN w/ a phd and a Nusing insructer, my other Aunt an RN who was a Nurse Manager in the facility and my friend CJ an L&D nurse and lactation consultant. My nurse was new and scared to death...my labor partners fixed my Iv, changed out my bags, and did other care. When it was time to deliver the doctorcouldn't be found- My gram said "Thats OK, I'm a liscensed FNP! I can do the delivery!" My nurse just about passed out!

I thought it was law that in an 8 hour shift a person had to get a 30 min lunch and 2 fifteen minute breaks:angryfire
