  1. Has anyone had any problems/positives from ETOH hand sanitizer? I worry I will get a false positive. Thoughts......
  2. RN2364 posted a topic in Nurses Recovery
Can anyone give me info on the OIG list.... has anyone here been able to get their name off that list? How do I go about getting off that list?
  3. It's a 3 year program! I am about 1/2 way thru. It's been a struggle but it has gone fairly quick. I wanted to travel also. Seems my life has been put on hold.
  4. I have been in the CANDO program about 1.5 years. There are a ton of hoops to jump thru but it's doable! The best places for jobs are Iasis. They are CANDO friendly. Banner not so much. It I know nurses in the program that do work at Banner. Keep your head up. It is depressing and demoralizing but it can be done.
  5. I am in AZ and there is one 24 hour test facility.
  6. So why a 5 year program? I thought Arizona was 3.... Did you get a hospital job right away? What hospitals are CANDO friendly? Are there some places that are more inclined to hire a nurse in CANDO then others?? Any information that would be helpful I would appreciate... maybe answer things that would have been helpful for you if someone had only told you to begin with. Any information is greatly appreciated. I know I struggle with this daily even though it's been 7 months. You are welcome to PM me if you prefer that. Thank you in advance for your help ....
  7. I agree. I am sure he needs a friend right now. Someone who has maybe been in a similar situation as him. Someone to give him words of encouragement vs judgement. Someone to listen.... IDK if you are in a recovery program as well but if you are I am certain whatever advice you can give will be helpful. If he can see someone who is "surviving" the program it might give him hope. If you can offer advice on things that helped you I am sure that will give him faith. If you can "pay it forward" and offer any assistance I would hope that would give him strength. Strength to get himself on track and maybe lend a helping hand to someone in his shoes in the future. We we all need to stick together. Hold each other's hand. Lift their hearts and spirits in any way possible. We all know how hard these programs are. We all know how isolating this can be. We all know we also want to give up on a regular basis. Let's do what we can for each other ... let it be kind words, pass on a place that hires nurses in recovery, give a dollar when we can afford it. Be especially kind to another nurse in a program. Love ourselves. Love each other...
  8. Arizona also lets you use controlled substances while in the CANDO program as long you have the correct documentation and a new Rx each month from your physician.
  9. Anyone out there familiar with the BON's stance on marijuana now that it is legal in many states? I pretty much assume that any nurse in recovery would have to stay away from it as it's a mind altering substance. How about the nurse not in recovery? Is that nurse allowed to ingest marijuana in states its legal to do so? How about pre-employment drug screens or random drug screens. Is it ok to test positive if not in recovery since it's legal? How about any nurse with with a medical card? How does the BON feel about medical cards for those both in recovery and not. Since it's technically medically prescribed is it ok to use with a medical card. How about employers. Are they employing nurses who test positive but have their medical card. I know people still take opiates and benzo's while in a monitoring program. As long as the rules are followed I know at least the Arizona BON allows nurses to continue with their Rx's. Any information or or discussion on this would be both informative and interesting ...

That boy WAS "fixing to die"! What she did was make a lie saving decision. Your judging her seems ignorant to me. It's seems ignorant and I am appalled you took an uplifting story of a very intelligent RN who made the RIGHT decision and turned it into an English lesson to suit your own personal agenda to try and make you appear more intelligent..... it's her story. She did a fabulous thing. Let her feel good about herself without your uninformed predujice attitude trying to steal her "thunder".
  11. The double standard I am really referring to is that it's seems quite ok for a male RN to have me do procedures they feel uncomfortable doing. I get the with this sue happy society protecting yourself and your license. When it comes to returning the favor they don't seem to feel the need to assist or do male procedure for me. Men feel like they are the only ones who can be accused of wrong doing. I just feel like if I can help a male protect his license they should respond in kind and not make me feel like I am overstepping boundaries when asking them to do male procedures for me after I have graciously done the female ones for them without question concern or bad attitude.
  12. I work in an inept detox facility and treat nurses, physicians, and dentists on a daily basis. I never report on any of them but I do recommend they self report. From what I have seen the BON etc is easier to deal with if you self report ...

Depending on what tests are done you can get a variety of results. If it's just a quick sample not done thru a lab you most likely will get a positive for opiates. Some breakdown a littl farther and you can identify Hydrocodobe. If it's sent to a lab the Vicodin will show up as Hydrocodone. Tylenol with Codeine will show up as Codeine. Both will show up as opiates. They can also get a rough estimate of about how much you used as well as when you used. It will also be able to tell you if it's a one time dose or many doses over time. This is based off of metabolites. If there are any and how many there are. Hope me this answers your question.
  14. CONGRAT!!!
  15. AA is Annonymous..... My friend is my "sponsor" and meetings are held in my home........
  16. I often wonder if these idiots have common sense. They say common sense is not so common! Really you would risk it 4 days before your contract end. That's just dumb. I can't believe they are even looking into it. Again money power and control is what they want. They are losing it and don't like it. Sorry this is happening to you.
  17. Ok I have been on this monitoring for 6 months! It goes by daily check-inn by daily check-inn. UDS by UDS. So I now have 2.5 years left on my jail sentence. I love all the posts from everyone and hearing about what programs they are in and how they work very similarly yet completely different. I thought maybe we can do a role call. Let's list these things about ourselves. (If you think of more add if not comfortable in an area skip it). Let's see how this goes: STATE: Arizona PROGRAM NAME: CANDO YEARS SOBER: N/A (for those who have read my posts you will get this) Able to find EMPLOYMENT: YES after many many interviews Are you willing to answer PM's and discretely share job search information:YES BRIEFLY name/list something(s) positive you have gained from this experience: for me I net strength and dependability. I have also become. Ore accountable for my actions. **** if you can think of any questions to add either add to yours but PM me and I will add it to mine so hopefully everyone will do it. Let's have som fun and get to know each other ANONYMOUSLY!!!
  18. I have always done ER. I wanted to do dialysis but haven't been able to even get an interview. I don't see where there are many job openings here in Phoenix for same. I miss the ER but maybe it was just my time to move on...
  19. What type of nursing are you doing?
  20. CONGRATS soroAKS!!
  21. I am in CANDO. I was told that as long as it happened before you signed your contract you are ok. If it happens after all bets are off. So it's not when they are found but when they occurred. Now if there is law enforcement situation idk about that. Hope that clears it up.
  22. Congrats K10 and twoyearnurse! When I started I was sure I would never find work. As of today I am grateful and thankful. All we did was orientation but everyone was so nice. In all my years as a nurse I have never been with so many positive people. I two will be helping out as much as I can. I had ZERO support coming into this. I was scared and lonely. I think they should require a nurse mentor instead of a sponsor. Lord knows I would have given anything for someone to advise me on my new path. CONGRATS TO ALL OF US. what a great day!!
  23. Congratulations to you also. It took months but it finally happened. I start the 12th also. I am so nervous. I feel like it's to good to be true. I am afraid it's all a dream. I am afraid they made a mistake and they will withdraw the offer. I can't sleep I can eat I can't do anything. I have never been this nervous about a job before. I would love to know how your day goes. I am in AZ. What state are you in? Once I get myself situated I am committed to helping others find work also. I am committed on sharing info (in a way private to the employers and companies) on businesses that are willing to hire nurses in a monitoring program. though this site has been very helpful I wish I had more support from others in my situation. Finding work has been one of the hardest things I have ever done.
  24. Thank you so much! I live in Arizona and my monitoring program is thru that state. Thank you for putting that out there. I wish more people would network and help each other get jobs. I did get a job offer and I start Monday. I am so excited. I keep wanting to pinch myself but I am scared it's just a dream. I CHALLENGE all of you who are fortunate enough to be working to put it out there like hppygr8ful did (we can handle it via PM's. I advise against naming a company directly) and be willing to help our fellow nurses succeed with their recovery. And yes that does include working. I haven't even started yet but my overall mind frame has changed and I find myself smiling just a little more.
  25. Can I ask what state you are in that has a 5 year natcotic restriction? That's the harshest I have seen. What kind of office job were you able to get. Also congratulations to you and your successful recovery work in progress
