MJC allnurses 2020
I don't want to get my hopes either, but now that there is 20% lottery I'm assuming they wouldn't want supporting documents from every qualified applicant,. That seems a lot of unnecessary paperwork to have to go through. But I could be wrong! I know it's hard we are all hearing conflicting information.

Will we still need an official transcript if we did all our coursework at MJC?

MJC allnurses 2020
Good luck everyone! I submitted my application yesterday. My points were pretty low (had B's and one C in my sciences. All A's in my non-sciences of course lol), so I'm counting on the lottery. I am retaking the science (Physio) I got a C in this semester at Stan State and have another chance at taking the TEAS, so my score will be higher for next year at least lol.

MJC allnurses 2020
Hi! I'm planning on applying this Feb as well, and am taking the TEAS next week. I didn't do as well as I would have liked in Physio and am planning on retaking it at Stan State this spring semester. I know it won't help me in applying this year, but hopefully next year. Does anyone know if MJC's program allows retakes of prereqs? I have heard some schools won't accept the grade if you received a C or better the first time. I can't seem to find any info stating you can't retake prereqs on MJC's website. Thanks! Good luck to everyone applying this year!

Chemistry - General vs Organic vs BioChem?
Oh... and to add I will be applying to a CSU as well in my area and it transfers over to meet the nursing prereq requirements.
-
Chemistry - General vs Organic vs BioChem?
The class I am taking currently is for basically the Chem class recommended for nursing majors at my school and it is considered General organic biochem.

Re-taking science classes?
You definitely need to check the school's retake policy as many of them are different. I'm in CA too and some don't even allow retaking nursing prereqs, so that would disqualify you right off the bat. Some allow one retake only of either a science or prereq and/or non-science prereq, and one school in my area does allow two. But that's it. Maybe meet with the school's nursing program advisor to get specific info related to that school.

Is Nutrition course really the hardest course?
I loved my Nutrition class and I finished up with a 99%. But I am also highly interested in nutrition as well. For me it wasn't a struggle at all, but it was also enjoyable for me to study since I already had an interest.

Feeling Discouraged
I feel for you and can totally relate. I have 3 kids at home and go to school when they are in school. My husband works, but recently switched from a swing shift to day shift. It has been great, unless the kids have no school or are sick. Then I have no one to watch the kids while I have class. Add to that the fact that my 9 year old son was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. So now I have lots of dr appts, call/texts from the school nurse, etc. I am so worried about how this is all going to work when and if I actually get into a nursing program. But I am trying to just take each day one at a time, because this is my dream and I have waited way too long to go back to school to give up on it now!

How many prerequisites Did you take at once?
I am actually currently struggling with how many prereqs I should take together next semester, so I feel you. For my school Chemistry is the prereq or Micro and Physio so you have to take it first. I struggled with all the memorization in Anatomy and ended with a B, so I really need to pull A's in the rest of my classes. I can't decide if I should try to take Micro and Physio together next semester. I have a lot on my plate right now in my home life (I have 3 kids and a son that was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes). It would only delay being able to apply to one of the 4 programs I am planning on applying to.

Nursing school at 38?
It is definitely not too late! I turn 39 next month and am currently in school finishing up all my prereqs. I have been in school now for 2.5 years ( I started when my youngest started kindergarten). I am planning on playing to the ADN and BSN programs near, but won't even be able to apply until next year. But I went to end up with a masters so I know I have plenty of years still ahead me of school. I got married and had kids right out of school so it feels really good to finally find a purpose for my life other than being a wife and a mother.

Drop public speaking with a "w"?
Is it a prereq at the school you will be applying to? At my school if you take a W in a nursing prereq then they actually subtract points from your app. So a C would be better than a W.

Getting job with ADN in California
Yes, every hospital hires ADN nurses no problem in my area of Cali. In fact, there are more ADN nurses than BSN nurses. I have a few ADN nurses in my family and they all got hired very quickly and easily.

Am I too old to start?
You're definitely not too old. I'm 38 and I'll be set to apply to nursing school next spring. There quite a few of us that are a bit older that have either raised families and are just now going back to school (like my situation) or decided on a career change, either by choice or necessity.

Going Back at 40 years old...
It is so comforting to see others on the same path! I am 36 years old and a mom of 5 and am FINALLY going back to school this fall semester. It will be interesting because my oldest is also starting college this fall. With my youngest child starting kindergarten this next year then it finally feels like the right time. I have been a stay at home mom for the last 8 years so this will be a big change. But since my husband is currently a full time college student(in addition to working his full time job), I am only planning on going part time until he graduates in 2 years. I am trying to take it one step at a time and not worry about the future and how I will juggle it all. Right now my plan is do my pre-reqs and GE at the junior college and then transfer to a university to get my BSN. I have waited a long time but raising my kids was always my top priority and the timing never really felt right until now.
