Hello, I find it a little confusing on what courses to take because every school requires something different courses for their nursing program. should I try and make a decision for one school or should I try and take my pre-requites for the nursing schools that I am interested in? does any one know about UCONN or Goodwin university?

Yes there are still some LPN programs in Ct but the programs are at private career schools and they are very expensive $30,000 plus for a year program. They did close the state LPN programs due to budget cuts. It all depends are were you live in CT but there are private LPN programs are as follows. Lincoln Tech institute New Britain and Shelton, Porter And Chester Institute Rocky Hill, CT and Stone Academy East Hartford, West haven CT. I would strongly suggest to you to go for your RN if you can and don't bother with LPN School. Because LPN's aren't being hired in Hospitals if that it where you want to work. And if you go the LPN route the courses that you will take at these private schools will not transfer into an Rn program and you will be starting from scratch to get your Rn degree. I have to go the LPN route due to family circumstances. I hope this helps good luck

And I would like to know are there any resent graduates of an LPN program in CT ,or are there any LPN's out there who would be available to help tutor me while I am in school ,because I think that I am going to need a tutor. Also I would like to know the best way to prepare for nursing school? I was thinking that I could get a book on dosage calculations.

Hello Everyone, I have been accepted into Nursing school I was told that I was accepted today. The admissions office said that they would be sending acceptance letters out the end of this month. I will be starting class on October 29, 2018. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I want to wish everyone else who will be starting their nursing program this Fall much success.

HI, Thank you for answering my post. I would do the RN route but it would take me more than two years with taking my pre-requisites plus I have to work full time because I am the sole support for my family.. This is the reason why I chose the LPN route because It is part-time for 22 months and then I thought that I would work and continue to go for my ADN since I already have some credits that would go towards to the ASN.

AS you may can see by my username I should have been an LPN By now. But I keep going back and forth between LPN or RN I definately want to be a nurse and I want to be an RN eventually. I have some 30 college credits though my I have not done so well with the science and math courses courses because I do not have a very good academic background in high school, but I not all my grades are bad have gotten some A's and B's. But this LPN or RN has me confused. Should I go the LPN route get a job and go back to School for RN? By doing this I will be working in the field in about 2 years because the LPN program that I will be taking is part-time for 22 months. Should I continue taking courses at the community college part-time where I could be in an RN program perhaps in 4 years ( two years plus summers of pre-requisites.?) where I will get my ADN. What do you think?

Hello WCSU1987, Thank you for answering to my post. What I would like to say to you is that I think that you are overstressing your self out with trying to apply and get accepted into a nursing program. I also understand that you have been waitlisted. But you are going to make yourself crazy if you keep going around in circles with getting accepted into a nursing program, please don't do it because when you do get accepted you would have burnt yourself out and you may perhaps not be able to make it through a program. I would say just try to focus on just one or two schools I can tell you really want this , but you over worrying about it won't make the schools make their mind up any faster just take some time and breathe before you know it you will be in a nursing program before you know it. Hello, If I were you I would just have patience and wait to get into the ADN program and while you are waiting continue to take courses toward the BSN program. You will get in soon don't worry too much. You will probably get in when your not thinking so hard about it have faith.

Hello Everyone, I would like to know as I take my pre-requisites for nursing would it be faster time wise to get my ADN and then Bridge over to BSN both full time or should I go for straight BSN full time? How does the RN/BSN program work. I live in CT.

Hello MiladyMalarkey, First, I would like to thank you for reading my post. Yes, there are several ADN programs in my area. The concern that I am having is that It will take me a year to finish my pre-requites for the ASN nursing programs. And I will not be able to apply to a nursing program until November 1, 2018 ,to which I hear is a 1 to 3 year wait to be accepted. And where I live which is CT there is a push to have BSN prepared nurses. And I currently have forty one credits towards the Liberal Arts Degree which I can graduate in a year and half and then I could transfer into a BSN program which is what I really want. My other question is if I go the ASN route kind(s) of position(s) will I be able to get with this degree. I suppose while I am waiting to be accepted into the two year program I could continue and take my pre-requites for the BSN program. I am willing to take any position with a ADN to get back in the field ( have worked as a nurses aid). ???

Hello Everyone, I took the Wonderlic Test at Porter & Chester Institute CT. I missed passing the test by 1 point. Has anyone taken this pre-admission test for nursing school? And what can I do next time to score higher on this test?

Hello Everyone, I am not a nurse yet, but I thought that I would chime in on this discussion. I am looking at nursing programs now while I take my pre-requisites. I have been diagnosed with schizo-effective disorder for several years and I am stable. But only recently I have been diagnosed with diabetes. I would like to know is there anyone else out the who have these diagnosis and how are you handling school? And do you think that I would be able to handle the demands of nursing school?

Hello Bet0913, First, I would like to say congradulations on getting accepted to Stone Academy Nursing program. I just took the Accuplacer exam last Tuesday and I passed it, but If I get accepted I won't be going until October ( that's if I decide to go there). I would like to tell you that I am a little concerned about Stone's nursing program as I have not heard good things. First of all the school is not accredited (BBB). When I was at the school last week I was able to speak with a few students. And they said that the school may no longer have the Child /Maternal rotation. And they may no longer have the clinical rotation in Durham, CT ( I am not sure what that one is). Also, the students had only four sites that they go to for the clinical. If I were you I would find out more about the school clinical rotations. Because you will want to have enough clinical experience so that when you find a job as a nurse you will feel that you are prepared. I am also going to Porter & Chester and Lincoln Tech this week to find out about their LPN program. Though I am having second thoughts about LPN where talking about $30,0000+ when I could go for ADN for have that and have a degree. Perhaps maybe you could consider going for RN.

Hello Everyone, I started out wanting to go school to become an RN even though I am not very good at science and math. I think that I could do these courses but I would have to struggle at it. I have forty college credits which mostly are non science courses. I still have to take A&P I, II, Chemistry and Microbiology for ASN I did take Biology and I received a B+. I was originally going to get my degree in Liberal Arts and then transfer to a four year college and get my BSN. I keep going back and fourth between LPN and RN. I ask myself why don't I go to school to become an LPN I thought no waiting list or pre-requisites and are a little easier to get into. I could hopefully find a position that has tuition reimbursement while I work as an LPN and return to school for my RN( maybe easier said then done). The problem is the three for -profit private schools are $30,000+ tuition for about 12 month of school. And non of the Gen Ed classes would transfer into any of the RN programs here where I live which is CT. And the state schools which are about half the price about $11,000+ tuition have been suspended due to the state budget and they have very selective process. I do not know when or if they will open back up. Actually I really want to become a RN (ASN or BSN I do not know). Another thing is that I am not eligible for a Pell grant only student loans which I do not really mind. But does any one know where I can a scholarship or grant to help me pay for tuition in case I go the ASN route. I do know that I would have more job opportunities available to me if I become an RN. And If I become an LPN here in CT I would only be able to work in a LTC facility, Home health and Doctors office. I feel that if I am going to put the time and effort into nursing school why limit myself in where I can work. Really want to become a RN. When any one asks me what my dream job is I say that I want to be a nurse. Can any one assist me with this issue?

Hello Jeantilien 1 I am taking your advice about Stone Academy East Hartford. Though because I had previously signed up to take the Accuplacer test I went ahead and took it this evening and I passed it. Matter a fact I did very well I surprised myself. while I was waiting to take the test I was able to speak with some of the students regarding the LPN program. I was dismayed to find out that the school was thinking about suspending the child/maternal clinical rotation. I also found out from another student that she had been in the program for a year and her clinicals were only in LTC facilities. And that the school had only four clinical sites. I am going to call the school tomorrow to find out exactly where they have their clinicals. Next Tuesday I have a appointment with Porter & Chester Inst. Rocky Hill. And next Thursday I have a appointment with Lincoln Tech New Britain. Would you be able to tell me about the admissions process to both Porter & Chester and Lincoln Tech. What test do these two schools as part of the admissions process? Accuplacer,Teas ect.. When I called Lincoln Tech to set up an appointment with them I found that the gentleman I was talking to was a little to aggressive with me. When I told him that I wasn't prepared to start school until October due to finances. It seemed like he did not want to here that it was like he wanted me to start with the next class. I am also hoping to hear about the status of the state LPN programs schools this month. I have 40 college credits that I hopefully could apply to A.I. Prince Tech LPN program.

I thought that they were accredited, are you sure it isn't ?. I have a friend whose daughter went there at the East Hartford campus and she thought that The school was ok, now I do not know what I should do. Maybe I'll look into Lincoln Tech and Porter Chester or just see if the state programs open back up. I was told that there should be in formation in April about the state LPN programs. I really hope that they open back up.
