  1. Wow, we have the same concerns with our OR aides and I would like to try and buy that book. Thank you for the suggestion.
  2. Sorry, sent too soon... I think it is mainly knowledge and skills but no certification.
  3. CVOR is CardioVascular OR . ;-)
  4. As far as I know, there is no CVOR certification.

What reviewer did you use? I plan to take the cnor as well. Congrats!
  6. I wear klogz and its very comfortable for me. Its stain-resistant too. Just wipe it with the clorox wipes and its good as new!
  7. I, too agree, that you need to excuse yourself from any cement cases. You dont want to take risks at this time. Your manager will understand.

I have just applied for cnor exam. I will buy the 2010 aorn standards and recommendation book as advised by those who passed the exam. Thank you very much for sharing because my colleague is very hesitant to share what books to review. Good luck to you canesdukegirl!
  9. Hi! I would like to become a case manager. I have been a nurse for almost a decade with medical-surgical and OR experience. I have seen a case management training with California Medical Audit and it is a 3-day course for $625. I would like to know if it is worth it to attend the training and if it would be of great help for me to be considered as a good candidate for a case manager position despite my lack of cm exprience? Thank you very much and all the success to my fellow nurses!
  10. han3, have you found a job that is less strenuous? wishing you a health pregnancy and healthy baby!
  11. Hi! UoP does not require GRE and there is financial aid available such as stafford loans. The financial counselor of UoP assigned to you will assist you with the application every step of the way. When you enroll in UOP, you automatically have an academic counselor and financial counselor to assist you in attaining your degree. Believe me, they are very helpful. UOP is nationally recognized and the hospitals recognize the degree you will attain through that university. You can also see that on their website. Good luck to you! :nuke:
  12. Hello! I have just graduated from the MSN Nursing/healthcare education program this year from University of Phoenix. I am just wondering what MSN graduates are up to since the degree has been attained. I am currently working in the operating room as a staff nurse and I am hoping that in the next year or so, I would be in the nursing education department.
  13. I have been wanting to try Dansko clogs for the last 4 years and finally, I got one for myself this year. I have to agree with most of you that Dansko clogs have great arch support and prevents one from having back pains due to prolonged standing and walking/running. The only complaint I have is that, due I trip (sideways)sometimes with my Dansko and I am afraid that I might get a sprain from that. The shoes are kind of noisy but I am really comfortable with the shoes.
  14. uplifting 508, when you have your interview, Janice will inform you what your salary will be based on your education and experience.
  15. mcs293, usually Janice reply ASAP. She is one of the best recruiters that I have ever encountered with because she replies immediately and updates you with what is happening with your application process.
  16. if you want to work in the OR,inform Janice Minucci about that as well and she will inform you about the next residency program for the OR. There are no weekends and holidays in the OR. For the floor, there is absolutely some holidays that you have to work and every other weekend. The patient load is 7-8 patients I guess, from what my fellow nurse has told me. I am from the OR that is why.
  17. People in HSS are friendly and has good tuition reimbursement programs. I think there's 10k for Bachelors, 12k for Masters and Doctorate (you might have to double check because this might have increased or decreased). For salary, I think it is competitive enough because they have differential rate for your degree and certifications which add up even it is just cents/hr. However, the hospital solely focuses on orthopedics and rheumatology as stated in their website. The hospital is also #1 in the nation for orthopedics. It is a very small hospital which gives you like a family atmosphere but could be detrimental for several reasons. If you're new to nursing or have been practicing nursing for a year or less, I suggest that you go to a general hospital to give you more exposure of the different areas of care. This hospital serves population in need or have undergone hip, knees, foot, hand, spine, shoulder, and elbow surgeries, etc.
  18. Hi! What unit are you going to work in?
  19. qtRN replied to dexter99's topic in Operating Room
I have had my OR residency program last year and I felt what you are feeling right now. I think we have a similar case. My fellow orientees and I felt like we were having a disorganized orientation and preceptors seem happy when you have done something out of their standards. Some would eat you up even if you have followed the AORN standards because you did not do things "their way" Preceptors want you to imitate them and I don't think it is right because as orientees, we are supposed to do what is ideal and stick to it to prevent errors. I have suggested to our nurse educator and chief nursing officer that preceptors need to have training and understand that orientees need to treated as adults and not children to be picked on in front of the surgical time. We are professionals and should be treated as such. just hang in there. Let's cross our fingers that it would get better. I would suggest that you do your readings about AORN standards and about the surgical procedures because when people observe that you know what you're doing and that you understand the concepts, they will respect you for that.
  20. Hi Smile 123, I am also planning to relocate to Santa Ckara county this summer and looking into Kaiser and El Camino hospital to work in. What do you think about El Camino? Do you anyone working there? what is the working environment? the benefits and salary? thank you so much.
  21. does anyone know if ECH is a nice place to work for with regards to workplace environment, nurse-nurse relationships and compensation? thanks.
  22. bryan, congratulations!!! How was your NUR 590B? who was your instructor? I am about to take my practicum B. How was it?
  23. In the hospital that I work in, they recognize the advance directives but one of the nurses stated that DNR is not being recognized because every patient in the OR is to be revived by all means. I have to check the hospital's policy about that. I think Suzanne is right too about DNR in the ambulatory surgery because we do not accept patients who are unstable and it is the anesthesiologist who give that call.
  24. Thank you for your response caliotter3. Different institutions have different systems and I just don't go for those who do not accept the patients' wishes.
  25. Hello! I just want to know if there's anyone working in El Camino Surgery Center located in Mountainview. I will be relocating to Santa Clara County early next year and I am looking for an Ambulatory surgery center to work in. Does anyone recommend an ambulatory surgery to work for in the bay area, like sports medicine? Thank you! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
