  1. Hi Ive pretty much tried a lot of things other than bediside... Did you try bedside nursing before? If yes why dont you try chart review? Its interesting-you go to doctors offices and review the charts for insurance purposes... I did it for a while until I couldn't cope up with the schedule. See I work nights on my other job and this is a day position... I also tried pharmaceuticals but its also stressful since you need to reach a certain sales target. Don't give up on bedside yet. There are a lot of specialty out there maybe you haven't found your niche. Try the OR, maybe outpatient clinics? Bedside nursing doesn't mean you must get out at a later time... Goodluck!:)
  2. I haven't seen anyone getting fired because of a complaint... What is your protocol in disciplinary actions? I know you need verbal warning first then, 1st written then I think 3 strikes you're out... If I were you I would ask the HR because it seems unfair and very subjective... Its unfortunate you have to go through it. Its wrong to have no help, its dangerous... you dont have to worry about interviews just tell them not to call your previous employer since you got fired. Its not a lawsuit plus your license didnt get suspended so you're still ok. Just be honest because they'll know. On the other hand its your license so dont let it happen again-dont ever accept a pt that you didnt get report on... This is hand off communication... Very essential for pt safety! Goodluck!
  3. Hey everyone! Any of you can give me inputs as to how long application process take in sacramento hospitals...I'm in NY and am planning to relocate anytime soon BUT there are no job offers... I heard you need to know someone inside to get hired? (if its true then that's sad its like living in the philippines) I have years of experience in med surg and very eager to move to sacramento. I hope to send my kid in school there in june so any input will help...
  4. I was browsing saw this post which is exactly my dilemma... We as a family want to move to sacramento since our relatives are there. We're currently in NY wanted to settle but the cost of living here is way unreasonable. Any advice? Do you know hospitals that sponsor relocation? Or should we do travel nursing first? Any input will help... Oh me and my wife are both RN...Thanks!
  5. I agree there is NO NURSING SHORTAGE! In my hospital nurses are being floated left and right due to overstaffing. Its exhausting! Nurses are also forced to transfer to another area (medsurg to step down and so on...) Its also harder to find another hospital job in my area... I called agencies but there are no current openings! This is really scary! I think by the time the so called baby boomers do retire there will be enough nurses to cover for them... Now I feel nurses are abused ,overworked and taken for granted!
  6. Similar thing happened just recently in MERCY medical center in long island 90 people were laid off or transferred to another floor... Nurses on my floor were told if they wont transfer to a designated floor they can just receive 3paychecks and they can kiss their jobs goodbye... I'm currently looking for an option I dont want this to happen to me.
  7. Hi I am not against sentosa 27 BUT I'd like to clarify some things... First of all The rate has never been $12/hour this is not true... I have friends who are under contract with the same agency and the rate is from $26-$31/hour lower than the average state rate BUT understandable since they petitioned the nurse w/ the families. Complete with green card regardless how many children you have... I'm not PRO sentosa see they have flaws BUT I just feel that in order to support these nurses who breeched their contracts you guys should know the real story... What about those who are still in contract? I know that those who's limited permit ran late(uncontrollable situation) those people instead of being jobless were offered $12/hour to do clerical work. BUT as soon as their permit arrive they go back to the RN rate... I know many who didn't pass the NCLEX and instead of having no income since they cant practice as RNs ,they were offered $12 too to do clerical for the meantime. While they are preparing to take their NCLEX(for the 2nd time)
  8. Thanks! Your thoughts are very helpful! I'm going to give it a shot and talk to my nurse educator...
  9. Hi everyone... I just want to know if someone has the same experience... I'm on my first month of OR training and I don't like it... I came from a MS floor decided I need a change figured I might like the OR so here I am... By the way I'm in a different hospital(way better than the previous one...) The thing is I don't know how much longer I can put up with this... I am now confused, I dont know what to do... I miss the critical thinking and autonomy on the floor yet I don't want to go back to 8-10 patients... I miss knowin what I'm doing and I miss not feeling stupid... I have nothing against this specialty but I feel its not for me...

Hi I started my OR training program and I feel so neglected... I used to work on the floor and decided to try the OR. I was made to observe cases and I will soon go to a classroom training. The thing is some nurses are very ******... Instead of being supportive to new ones which can be of help in the future they are so territorial and treats you like hell. The educator is also NOT so organized will just leave us behind and let us orient ourselves to the place. Its been 3wks:no: and I'm getting frustrated. I'm not a new grad so I need to learn stuff and do my thing. Does this happen to every OR training program?
  11. HI! Is there a specialty in winthrop that has 8hr shifts? Thanks!
  12. I was offered 72k for NSLIJ w/ my 2yrs experience ,BSN. This is day shift so I don't know about night diff. But I'm still thinking about it because of the rotation sched after the 6 mos orientation in the OR. Winthrop's rate, I heard is ok close to 65k for a new grad. Anybody know what the shifts are in winthrop?
  13. I started working in a medsurg floor because everybody was telling me that I need to start with MS. After a year and a half I'm finally going to the OR and I'm so excited! I think there's an advantage in going to medsurg since you develop your analytical skills and assertiveness but going straight to OR won't hurt too! I am going to North Shore Univ Hosp in manhasset NY and I'll be in a 6 mos orientation. Being a new grad 6 mos of orientation will definitely make you feel comfortable with what your doing... I hope this helps. Goodluck!
  14. I hear you! I also have 10 patients most of the time and YES I am also in medsurg. But mostly surgical cases as in fresh post ops! And I hate it! I'm planning to get out just waiting for the right time and opportunity. I'm looking at OR hope someone will hire me. I just have 8 mos of medsurg experience. Here in our area its hard to find a job.
  15. Hi I've been in Medsurg for 8 months and yes it is so frustrating! Eventhough I'm adjusted its the people around me I can't figure out! Especially the nurse educators that bullies you since they want to prove that they're doing their job well! I hate med surg!
