I agree with Jolie. And good point mjlrn, who earned the money. Yes, some have more advantages than others. Warren Buffet for example is giving away money yet what he has left continues to make more and more. It is still his money. I would have a tough time on $21.00 a week for food, but I'd certainly take responsibility for why I had to live on 21.00 and not keep asking for more handouts.

A lot of patients don't tell the truth. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes by mistakes. Document, document, document!!!!! I work at an office and we have patients who want to be seen without an appointment so they just show up and say someone from our office called them. :flamesonb I've had patients tell me one thing and the Doctor another. It happens and it is not pleasant.

You know in this day and age I would be cautious about offering help outside my place of employment and to strangers. I have a family to think about. My health and our livlihood could be affected by helping that stranger. I also feel I am a good nurse to my patients. Lets not blast someone who is upfront about her actions. They are her opinions, not ours.

The only benefit to humidify low flow oxygen would be the subjective one by the patient. "It doesn't feel as dry with it on". I do not know if studies would show an increase in nosocomial infections in patients who use bubble humidifiers or not. The bubble humidifiers would be an extra cost to the hospital. If it makes a patient feel better and doesn't hurt them, I guess the only question would be is it "worth" it. I think this would be a small price to pay for someones comfort.

SCRN1, Thank-you for putting the patient first. Sometimes the goof-offs forget this. I know it doesn't help your frustration any but, the patient that you helped with appreciates that you were there for them. Keep up the good (excellant) work.

I have a question about the scenerio. She had 1000ml in 6 hours and 1170 out in those 6 hours. Did I interpret that right or am I missing something? She certainly wouldn't be fluid overloaded so I guess I would need some information regarding her hydration status. Really want to know.

She is not ready to settle down with you. Her career is still first in her heart. She is doing this for her future not yours. Talking from experience, how long would you wait for her? I agree with Clee1. Wishing you the best.:balloons:

L&D maybe difficult to get in. I would try that first because that is truly where you want to be. Another suggestion is Float Pool. You'll get to see many areas and sometimes I'm sure you will get floated to L&D. Another area is Outpatient 24. Most are surgical patients who will hopefully go home after 24 hours. Do not go to an area you don't like. It would be a waste of everyone's time and talent. It is hard to orientate someone who doesn't want to work there.

I am a second career nurse. I was/am a RRT. I went back to school at the age of 40. Most of my prerequisits were counted from college 20 years ago. My grade point average was a 2.6. I had to take a few more prequisits and received A's in them.. From experience I agree with what Quickbeam says. And boy, do those fresh out of highschool make you feel old! Good Luck!!

How old are your children? Can you sell one of the homes just to get out from under it. How about loan consolidation? There are some reputable companies out there. Is child care an issue? A job at MacDonalds may not pay all your bills but it will show lenders you are willing to work. At least until you find a nursing job. You must have some good background if you managed an office. A job will help you get through this mess by focusing on other things. I can't imagine how tough this is for you and my heart goes out to you.

rehab nurse, I am so sorry for your plight. You must be so overwhelmed. Please take one day at a time. The ones who left that mud hole appreciated you. We one this board appreciate you, I appreciate you. Good nurses who care are so hard to find. That said, think hard about what is important to you and put your plans in that direction. I agree with you elkpark. It's great for people to find the problems and let others be aware of them but, what are their solutions? Who is held ultimately responsible?

I've had this converstation with other nurses and we agree it is oral care. We can't tell you why for sure. Maybe the nurses thought the aids took care of it and the aids thought the nurses did?

I agree with SCRN1. That is how we do it in clinic.

That is a great question. It really makes you critically think. Granted it would be much easier if we knew the symptoms. Otherwise let the debate begin. I think Vfib 1, A-fib 2 (due to the possibility of emboli), Sinus brady 3 because it can require more treatment than sinus tach -4. ( A good bowel movement could take care of sinus tach, you know the vagal maneuver. IMHO.
