  1. I was using this review book called Master the NCLEX-PN by Peterson's. It went through all the content of nursing: basic concepts, pharmacology, mental health, maternity/newborn, pediatrics, oncology, then med-surg nursing and each chapter focused on a body system. The chapters were pretty short so it was easy to follow and review the content without getting too overwhelmed or your brain starts hurting. It was short and precise information. Then each chapter had a set of questions at the end with the answers so it gave me more exposure to NCLEX-style questions. I also used some ATI materials...I used the folder with multiple papers inside...I used the paper with lab values on it and that really helped.
  2. Hi! I am in the same boat as you. I just took my NCLEX this morning!! I wanted to give myself enough time to study and refresh my mind with concepts or areas I wanted to brush up on. I think studying a chapter a night and being exposed to NCLEX style questions helped prepare me. I also utilized the ATI folder they gave us at the Live Review. I mostly reviewed the lab values, and I am SO happy I did because there were a number of questions and answers with lab values and reviewing those a lot helped me answer those questions. I felt surprisingly calm last night, and this morning I was calm until I went to the test center and I felt some anxiety...but once I sat down in front of the computer, the anxiety went away and I just did it. It felt strange seeing that blue screen shut me out after 90-something questions...I have a good feeling though. I wish you well on your results and hope we passed!
  3. I had a decent sized class, and the instructors were very good at making sure we were on top of our skills and making sure they were correct. I enjoyed the clinical days when we went to an actual real-life setting. It was nerve-wracking, scary, and intimidating being in a real world place to practice my skills, but those were the best days because I really learned the skills and had it ingrained. I disliked the cliquey-type groups that my class started right at the beginning. I remember only certain classmates I could talk to and get help from or felt comfortable enough to be their partner during our skill checks.
  4. You can do it! Remember you are doing this for a better life and a better financial future for your family. Know that you have what it takes to achieve it. Set aside times during the week to study, focus on schoolwork, etc. My resolution is to start nursing school on a positive note. I start in 2 weeks! I can't believe it is already here, but I am ready.
  5. I cannot believe how inconsiderate and disrespectful this college was to the student's disability. They were wrong when they booted her out of the program. It makes me angry that there are people like that who can't be understanding and provide the necessary tools this student needed. I am glad this student fought back and stood her ground. She deserves all the success that she gets and there are by far better schools that can accommodate her needs.
  6. I took the TEAS V test for the pre application process. It wasn't a super hard test, but definitely needed the time to study to get familiar with the material.
  7. Hello everyone, I am currently a CNA working at a nursing home and have been for 5 and a 1/2 years now. I have recently been accepted into an LPN program and I begin in January and it goes until next November 2016. One, I am so so excited and thrilled to be accepted and finally start a new chapter in my healthcare field career. I am also a bit nervous and getting apprehensive about what nursing school is like, how others have handled the workload/stresses of school, and how they got through a not so good test/quiz. I want to hear from other's input on their experience with nursing school whether you've graduated already or are still in it. Please give me some advice, tips, and encouragement, it will help ease my nerves that are starting. Thanks!!
  8. I think you would be better off trying a LTC/Nursing home place for finding a job to only work holidays and summer breaks. You can choose to go per diem and choose when to work so you can complete your hours. Good luck!
  9. It's not really age discrimination based off of one's walking speed. They probably are accustomed to that speed because of the busy, hectic environment they're working on. I'd try to reframe your mind about your preceptor and learn to pick up the pace. Also, understand her point of view and know that she's taken on an extra task of teaching you plus her other work tasks to get done in a timely manner. Good luck and hold out on your preceptor.
  10. Realize how far you've come and how good it feels not smoking and smelling bad and having it take over your life. You're a champion for fighting thru this and let the urges go by. Understand that urges come and go but act like they are clouds floating by. You're stronger than you know
  11. Try to realize that the schooling is temporary and won't last forever. You're giving your family a better life with a better income. You're also setting a great example about furthering one's education. Try to spend a fair amount of time with your children each day and also your studies too. You can do this!
  12. Im sorry this happened to you, however it's not really a big enough issue to violate HIPPA since you two were supposedly close classmates. You chose to share your personal information to this classmate and assuming she would not tell others. I think you should not let this person affect you too much as it will distract you from your schooling. Try to be aware of who you're sharing your information to and try to move on from this.
  13. I think making nursing so competitive is a positive thing for potential students. Not everyone is cut out to be a nurse, but the ones who push through the envelope and put in the effort of making good grades, seeking out references, getting experience really earn it. I'd want a nurse who knows what they are doing instead of a mediocre nurse with no passion. Try your best and focus on you and your education, you'll get in!
  14. Is this resident alert and oriented at all? If so, next time if she becomes combative , try leaving her be for a few minutes to calm her down, then reapproach her. As for the investigation, take deep breaths and be honest and direct about what you write. I'm sure nothing will happen to you if she's got a history of combative behavior. I hope everything works out.
  15. It's a real issue when a housekeeper tries to being your boss and tell you what to do and how to do it. I don't get how some feel that they have any authority over CNAs. I personally wouldn't let those two housekeepers behavior slide, it is wrong and they should be reported.
