Moving California. Insight on pay scale etc?
For what it’s worth, I make $50 (southern ca) an hour day shift. Night dif is $7 and weekend dif is $4. I am a fairly new nurse. I used to work in the Midwest and people here are forgetting about he nurse to patient ratio. I will never work med-surge anywhere else but Ca because I know working in tele I will never have more than 4 patients. I saw nurses in the Midwest get 6-7 patients and having primaries.

Being Gay and a Male Nursing Student
Being gay helped me so much during nursing school in my OB rotation and now as an RN when dealing with some female patients. I remember when my preceptor and I would go into some female patients room and she would introduce me I could see some of them look uncomfortable in having a male individual there. I usually do not like to talk about my personal life unless asked, but when I see a female patient seem uncomfortable about having a male student/RN I would bring up some random conversation that would basically imply/give them a big hint that i'm gay. For example, I had a pt that was allergic to cipro and I asked her "so I see you allergic to cipro, my boyfriend is allergic to cipro also he gets an awful rash". Once all that was out in the open you can feel them being more relaxed. So for me being gay has been more positive and it has been a lot easier to get along with female co-workers and patients.

Master's Entry vs. Accelerated Bachelor's
If the cost is not much more, I would do the masters. If it is significantly more then ABSN.

Pre nursing student has a question for current RNs
Seems like you’d be better off going to PA/Medical school or NP (but thatll take you longer than PA. My husband is an MD and went into the field because he loved science and putting pieces together from the micro level -up. He always tells me how us nurses put up with so much and really empathizes with nurses doing so much with so little resources. Needless to say nurses love him... he changes patient diapers when he sees nurses are swamped lol.

Need some guidance
I don’t know about other states, but I think I’m Ca you can challenge for LPN licensure since you’re a medic in the military. I would look into it.

Cedars - Sinai New Grad Nurse Residency - February 2019
For those who didn't get a call, don't lose hope! I didn't get a call the first day they started notifying people, but I did the next day. Since they started Friday and HR is off on weekends they'll most likely resume Monday. I heard Feb might be a big cohort like Oct so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get through to everyone. Mine was fairly small. So don't lose hope!

Is there something wrong with me? Too much studying?
Every person it different. If it is working for you AND your girlfriend, why change it?

Give up on WGU I understand. Please don't give up on being a nurse, there are plenty of schools out there!

WGU So Cal August Cohort
Oh no, im so sorry. Seems like the CA cohorts for WGU are getting smaller. When is the next one after the Oct? Are there other schools that you are looking at?

Scheduled to take the NCLEX today but denied because of inappropriate identification???
Congrats! The lady should have just said "sign your passport and goodluck". This could have been a non-issue. Either way, I think it worked out for the best because I would have been to worked up to take that exam after going through all that with the lady.

WGU So Cal August Cohort
Did you ever hear back?

April 2018 California Cohort
Well if WGU's regional accreditation is the problem then that CRNA program should also not accept students from University of Washington, University of Utah, BYU, etc since they are also accredited by the same regional accrediting body's and not by WASC. I HIGHLY DOUBT that they do not accept students from those universities. The kaiser link you gave specifically states "3.2 GPA" as a minimum requirement whichautomatically disqualifies WGU students since a pass at WGU is a 3.0 equivalent.

April 2018 California Cohort
I don't think it's the regional accreditation, but most likely the grading system. CRNA school is competitive as it is already and the untraditional grading system (3.0) wouldn't event be competitive enough for it anyways. I graduated from the WGU prelicensure BSN program and i have friends who ask me they'd like to apply to the program that I did and I always ask them if they plan on doing advance practice nursing (np, crna) and if they do I always tell them to find a different program. I don't plan on doing any of those things, but I do plan on getting my msn but not in those areas. However, if you just want to do bedside then it's a good program. I could not have been a nurse without the untraditional format similar since I worked full-time.

LVN adanced placement California
LVN's would go through the entire program just like everyone else. You can't skip anything, but you'll probably get a leg up during clinicals.

April 2018 California Cohort
For what it's worth, wasc = regional accreditation, WGU has regional accreditation. It's not by wasc because the main campus (Utah) is not in the region that wasc accredits. All regional accrediting bodies are equal. https://www.elearners.com/sites/all/files/public/images/CHEAchartsmallest_lightbox(1).jpg

Preceptors: Advice for New Grad Nurses
For those who are/have been preceptors for new grads, what are some things that you look/expect from a new grad? I am starting a new grad program soon and I really want to prepare and make sure that I maximize the time I have with a preceptor. It will be in a med-surg floor. Also what are common traits that you have seen with successful new grads and common mistakes made by unsuccessful new grads?

HELP, AA, BSN or MSN
CA BSN or above for sure if you can. Some hospitals in CA won't even let you apply without one.

Is my Bachelors degree in another field useful in nursing??
As far as being a competent nurse, there's no difference. Hospitals want Magnet status and in-order to attain that status I believe a certain amount of nurses need to be BSN or higher. I also have a BA in another field and it has not helped me in anyway with nursing. I have friends who finished with an ASN and could not even apply to certain hospitals, even with a previous bachelors, because it was BSN or MSN only.

Passed nclex but no license
Call the Illinois board of nursing only they will be able to help you. Have you checked if your name is on their website (eLicense Online).

Advice: Job Before ABSN
Unless you're an LPN already that'll be another year of schooling to do. You'd probably make more money doing your marketing job than working as a CNA (even with tuition reimbursement). I don't k ow any hospital that'll pay for your entire tuition.

WGU pre licensure
I would advise against doing any term breaks. The reason being they may or may not have room for you in the next cohort and you would have to wait for the following cohort to realign. For instance, if they take 10 per cohort and all 10 are still in that cohort when you need to align then you will not be put in that cohort and will need to wait until a cohort has less than the max that a cohort can have. So you're graduation date will just keep getting pushed back. However, sometimes emergencies happen and I understand that but if at all possible try not to.
