  1. So glad I did not work in this type of environment. From the beginning I told my manager I wanted to go to CRNA school when he hired me as a new grad.Everyone for the most part new that going to CRNA school was going to be my ultimate goal (My hospital actually has a CRNA program where at least 2 nurses get admitted too every year). There were those old nurses that sated "You need at least 5 years of ICU exp. before going" or "CRNA is too boring why would anyone want to do it". Will my advice is to be the best possible nurse that you can be! Help out with all admits, get your certs, be involved in your units politics. In my short 2.5 years of working ICU I was the charge nurse, precepted students and nurses, and became the full time rapid response nurse for my hospital. I recently had my last day of work and will be starting CRNA school next week. All of my coworkers could not be more happy for me. Don't hide your ambitions! Embrace it and own it!
  2. Good stats! I am sure you will receive a invite to interview. The interview is what will gain you acceptance to the program so make sure to stand out. FYI, I believe you need to take a chem & algebra class before beginning. Good luck í ½í¹‚
  3. You got the GPA bro don't sweat it. Just be ready to make up for it during the interview Make it up with clinical knowledge
  4. You can contact local county hospitals and get transferred to education dept. From there just stat that you want to shadow a CRNA. Most county hospitals in CA are major academic teaching facilities. So they might be able to accommodat you even though you are not affiliated with the hospital. Thats how I got my date
  5. Hey hows it going brotha... Coming from someone who had the same path as you I'd say some back home and apply at county hospitals. They usually are teaching centers and pay less so they depend on nursing going for their first year and then bouncing out to better paying facilities (Private/KP) but try that route. I actually volunteered at my hospital, got hired in the ICU 2 days in I actually fitted in with everyone, and will be starting CRNA school this August at the same facility. PM if you need some advice on the applying process. Its going to be just as bad as applying to nursing school lol
  6. I work in a MICU so I had to study a little longer with the CMC exam. I feel as it was way more difficult then the CCRN as it dove in deep with the knowledge you needed to answer questions regarding PAWP readings and IABP ratio questions. The review which they have on the AACN is a excellent resource to study for the exam. Good luck (:
  7. Well said brotha. I was not as competitive as many of the other nurses stats which I have read on allnurses (GPA 3.2, BSN=3.4, 1.5 yrs exp) but what I did excel in was participating in leadership roles on the unit. I was chair of the Unit Practice Council, participated in the code blue/rapid assessment & patient safety committees. It is all about how well rounded of a nurse you are and the drive which you have.
  8. So I will be in the cohort which starts this year but from what I know from my colleagues who have recently finished the program and those who are currently in the program, it is intense. If you are choosing the distance portion you will be required to attend the university at the start of the first 2 semesters for 2 weeks. This time will be used for orientation, meet and greets with professors, and be used for time in the simulation lab. The semester usually runs Mon, Wed, Fri and students are required to be present at the distance learning location during the duration of lecture. I believe students need at least a B- to move on to the next portion of the program. Hope this gave you a little bit of insight brotha.
  9. My advice..... Apply to a different ICU.
  10. I applied in October, received a interview for mid November, and was granted a spot the same day of the interview.
  11. I as well got mine last Thursday for CA
  12. See you then. Let the studying begin lol
  13. Keep up hope. I heard that the school can take up to November to finish sending out interview invitations.
  14. wow!! lol!!! To funny
  15. Have you heard back yet for the Colton site?
  16. I have 3 coworkers that are in the program right now and from what I have heard the Colton, CA site is not as competitive as other sites only because people do not want to move to CA because of how expensive it is to live here opposed to places like Texas or the Louisiana site. My friends told me that they both started with 10 people with the last two cohorts. Hopefully we both will be accepted here carocam
  17. Hey future classmates (Wishful thinking lol), I am also applying to TWU's CRNA program. I really don't know how I feel about my stats right now but i'm going to give it a shot. I have 3.2 overall gpa with a 3.5 gap for my BSN. I have my CCRN and CMC and I will have 2 years medical ICU experience in October. I actually work at the hospital where the California site is at and hope to get accepted to that site. The GRE is still pending for me so we will see how that goes. Good luck to everyone (:

Not gonna lie bro the CMC is hard. Took the CCRN in Janurary and passed with ease. The CMC i took in Feb and passed with a minimum score. The test is super focused so know everything in regards to MIs, IABP, PA catheters and the numbers that they give you, and know cardiac meds. The AACN gives you a free sample question pdf file which is helpful. Good luck brother
  19. Hey brother, I actually have a couple of buddies from my unit that are starting at TWU this August. From what they have told you, they let you choose your top 3 clinical sites since there are many throughout the US. Nothing is guaranteed but at least they try and work with you lol. I will be applying this August. Anyone else applying this year as well?
  20. I personally see this fading out. If anything it is an advantage to be a male because we can move patients easier or help them ambulate but thats about it. I do not notice the stigmatism as much in the Bay Area
  21. Wow I had no idea that they had a LVN-BSN program It is a nice campus tho, i"m definitely looking forward to starting in the fall
  22. Hey Guys, Just wondering who out there is applying for this program. From what I have been hearing it's not as impacted as traditional BSN programs. The program how ever is located in Palm Desert. Look forward to hearing what your guys thoughts are on this school
  23. You are just still have a lot of years left in you! My cohort as around 10 people over the age of 40.
