  1. Texas Children's New Grad program

Our summer GN cohort started on July 27th, so I'd say late July.
  2. Texas Children's New Grad program

As you'd probably expect, the questions were behavioral based. I thought of about 5-8 good "stories" from nursing school/PCT work experiences and patient/family interactions that could be used in a variety of different types of questions. I think the...
  3. Texas Children's New Grad program

I am (was) from out of state, so I did not have any clinicals at TCH or anywhere else in the medical center. About 2/3 of my new grad cohort did, the rest of us did not. I would imagine that it helps to have clinicals (especially to do your senior pr...
  4. Texas Children's New Grad program

I really do. It's a very diverse unit and there is always so much to learn. Everyone is incredibly helpful and supportive. I can't believe I've been here for almost a year.
  5. Texas Children's New Grad program

I'm not sure about antepartum, but I do know that some of the antepartum GNs were hoping to transfer to L&D after about a year or so. As for nicu, there were 8 of us in my cohort (summer 2015): 3 in nicu4 days, 3 in nicu4 nights, 2 in pavilion ni...
  6. Texas Children's New Grad program

In my cohort (July 2015) they did not. They did hire into antepartum, though.
  7. Relocating to Houston area after NCLEX

I definitely understand your stress of trying to find that first new grad job in the amazing place that is the Texas Medical Center, especially as an out of state student with ZERO on-site clinicals. It is a big challenge, but it is possible! I am an...

  10. Texas Children's GN Residency 2015

(To GN2015 about the acute care interview): It was not bad. The interviewers were very friendly and fun to talk with. The questions were, as we all expect, behavioral based. Get there early if you are not familiar with TCH and the medical center. Goo...
  11. Texas Children's GN Residency 2015

I ended up having 3. My CVICU interview was canceled (apparently they selected all their GNs by the end of the Tuesday interviews). Disappointing, yes, but I am still excited and hopeful for any of the nicu, picu, or acute care positions.
  12. Texas Children's GN Residency 2015

Yes. I also interviewed with acute care and nicu today. They're conducting the acute care interviews now through friday. You might call HR and ask the status of your application?
  13. Texas Children's GN Residency 2015

Hi! I got a call yesterday from TCH (nurse recruiter/HR) to set up a time/date for interviews with the nurse managers in the CVICU and PICU. I'm equally excited and nervous! I was told that they will be calling over the next 2-ish weeks as they deter...

Go for it! The best student in our class is in his early 50s. The combination of maturity, life experiences, and true passion make him an excellent nurse.
  18. Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

In class today a professor reminded us that adequate urinary output is frequently on the NCLEX. Adults = 30-50 mL/hr; peds = 1-2 mL/kg/hr
  19. Should I memorize the conversions for the math portion

I agree, memorize the basics...but the more complicated things will be given to you. Good luck!
  20. how to study for a cumulative final?

The one thing that helps me the most is going through my notes IMMEDIATELY after the exam (as soon as I walk out the door) and highlighting the information that was in the test questions. I do this again after the test review. True, there may be diff...

I am currently a PCT on the floor I was a nurse extern this summer (Cardiac Step Down Unit, pediatric hospital). Some of my responsibilities include vitals, administer feeds (PO and tube), assist with procedures (and sometimes get to just watch the m...
  22. nursing student needs help!!

Many students in my class work at one of three local hospitals. Their general way of "getting in" was to call the HR department and express interest in working (as a nursing student). Everyone seems to love it.
