  1. Our summer GN cohort started on July 27th, so I'd say late July.
  2. As you'd probably expect, the questions were behavioral based. I thought of about 5-8 good "stories" from nursing school/PCT work experiences and patient/family interactions that could be used in a variety of different types of questions. I think they're looking for a smart-yet-teachable new grad that is flexible, hard working, and friendly. The interviewers were very nice; my interview experience was a positive one.
  3. I am (was) from out of state, so I did not have any clinicals at TCH or anywhere else in the medical center. About 2/3 of my new grad cohort did, the rest of us did not. I would imagine that it helps to have clinicals (especially to do your senior practicum/capstone there) but it is definitely not mandatory. Good luck!
  4. I really do. It's a very diverse unit and there is always so much to learn. Everyone is incredibly helpful and supportive. I can't believe I've been here for almost a year.
  5. I'm not sure about antepartum, but I do know that some of the antepartum GNs were hoping to transfer to L&D after about a year or so. As for nicu, there were 8 of us in my cohort (summer 2015): 3 in nicu4 days, 3 in nicu4 nights, 2 in pavilion nicu nights. For the October group there were around 10, hired into all 3 nicus (nicu 2, 4, and pavilion nicu). The numbers for the February GN group are about the same. I hope that info helps! Good luck!
  6. In my cohort (July 2015) they did not. They did hire into antepartum, though.
  7. I definitely understand your stress of trying to find that first new grad job in the amazing place that is the Texas Medical Center, especially as an out of state student with ZERO on-site clinicals. It is a big challenge, but it is possible! I am an out of state BSN new grad (2 weeks ago), but I just accepted a job at Texas Children's for their summer residency program. My interview was my second time ever in the TMC; I had no clinical experiences or other connections whatsoever. I started late this summer/early fall by finding and favoriting the different hospitals' residency pages online and creating a file with the specific requirements and descriptions of each program, including application date openings. I checked application openings frequently (sometimes they open a little early or later than posted) and signed up for job alert emails for each facility I was interested in. Don't be afraid to travel to a general open house or RN recruiting event during the year, especially the hospital that you are most interested in! Go with an open mind and copies of your resume and cover letter - even though they are intended for experienced nurses it definitely shows intentionality and may connect you with a specific department or recruiter. Last if you truly want to work in the TMC - apply EVERYWHERE! There are a lot of different places, each amazing in different ways. As for boards, I am getting my initial license in Georgia for the sole reason of that is where I currently live and can best study. As soon as I get my results I will apply to the Texas Board. It is my understanding that after your completed licensure application is submitted you will be issued a temporary license within 12-14 days. Best of luck! If you have any questions please let me know, I'll be happy to help however I can!
  8. Thanks! You too!!
  9. For everyone waiting to hear back from NICU, you may hear something today. I did and...I got the job! :)
  10. (To GN2015 about the acute care interview): It was not bad. The interviewers were very friendly and fun to talk with. The questions were, as we all expect, behavioral based. Get there early if you are not familiar with TCH and the medical center. Good luck! You'll do great!
  11. I ended up having 3. My CVICU interview was canceled (apparently they selected all their GNs by the end of the Tuesday interviews). Disappointing, yes, but I am still excited and hopeful for any of the nicu, picu, or acute care positions.
  12. Yes. I also interviewed with acute care and nicu today. They're conducting the acute care interviews now through friday. You might call HR and ask the status of your application?
  13. Hi! I got a call yesterday from TCH (nurse recruiter/HR) to set up a time/date for interviews with the nurse managers in the CVICU and PICU. I'm equally excited and nervous! I was told that they will be calling over the next 2-ish weeks as they determine how many positions will be available in each unit. Good luck! Has anyone else heard anything?
