  1. Onco is just med surg, similar to 21. Just do what you've been doing and you'll be fine. You'll probably have ****** who I didn't have but is a great teacher. Psych is tricky. Some people do great with it, some people just don't get it. The material is extremely different from a perspective of how you should answer the test questions. A lot of it is how you should communicate with patients with particular psych problems or are acting out in a particular way. I personally excelled in psych 'cause I have experience with it but my buddy bombed that class. The clinicals were a whole different animal as well. I've heard horror stories from Woodhull. CIH, which was my site was pretty great. Try to take stuff like Patho or Pharma if you haven't already in either the short semesters or alongside the regular nursing classes. If you can, sneak in a computer science class somewhere cause I've found a few RN-BSN programs require one. edit: Make sure you nail the ATI portion of your grade. Those are like free points. You should be getting at least 7 out of those 10 points and they mean a lot. The whole program changed a lot during the time I was there so not sure if what I can tell you is even applicable anymore. You can't choose your own section anymore, tests were all pencil and paper scantron tests for us, not the tablet stuff they're doing now. How was the pass rate of your 21 class?
  2. Definitely B... Easy choice.
  3. Good luck freshies. Take the first semester seriously. Lots of kids failed Nursing 18 last year.
  4. This is such BS. I've used NCLEX review books to study for my nursing classes and have seen exact questions show up from the practice sections. Is that considered studying from a test bank and should I be dismissed for using a alternative resource? You're basically still studying the material and assuming you had no prior knowledge of what questions would be on the test, I don't see anything wrong with this. The issue is with how tests are created.
  5. Very good read. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I will be taking the NCLEX for the first time soon and will refer back to this post every now and then.
  6. Congratulations. Always fun to hear success stories.
  7. That person that studied a week before is my hero. I'm giving myself 3 weeks minimum to study.
  8. edited: read the topic incorrectly.
  9. I use a Timex weekender. It's a nylon band but it's only $15.
  10. I have rarely heard bad things about Hurst. I'm in Kaplan right now and I'd say the only thing good about it is the QBank.
  11. For my program it was a flat 75%, encompassing tests mostly, but some online work through ATI. Kind of scary hearing these higher requirements from other programs as I would have failed out in my second semester with a 78 if I was held to those standards.
  12. Just realize that you've already passed two semesters and there is nothing preconceived about whether you will pass or fail. Do what has been working, up your game if you feel yourself dipping, and remember that the only thing different is the information. Personally, like many others here, my first two semesters were actually my hardest as I didn't really get into a comfort zone. You should be finding your groove by now so all you need is the effort and you will do fine.
  13. So as not to repeat anything others have said, I'd say if I could do it over again, I'd have gone for a BSN right off the bat instead of my AAS. You will eventually need to get your Bachelor's anyways.
  14. The only way to know if peds is right for you is to go for it. Gender doesn't factor into it.
