hi , i moved here from NY as well. my husband and kids needed a change. I lived in the Bronx. any how i love it. we brought a house in smyrna(cobb county). the schools are excellent and the area is very quite. coming from the big apple i needed that. i am about 15 min away from metro ATL without traffic ( I 285 is really close). i agree with the other posters anywhere outside of ATL. and yeah Gwinnett is great too,but because or their redeveloping everything seems really spaced to me . well good luck

hey 1st it depends on where you live in ATL. ATL is very big. I would look for an Apart on the outskirts of atl. dont try to move too close to mid town or so called metro atl (very expensive). also try to get an apartment guide. i think the website is something like http://www.apartmentguide.com or http://www.rent.com. you can get really decent apartments for less the 900 a month at least for 1 bedroom. i moved here from NY. we brought a house in coob county real close to I285. the bad news is CNAs dont get paid much here. like 9-12 dollars a hr. they get less than CMAs. The good news is CNAs are in high demand, so you shouldnt have a problem getting a job. Good luck

I think my own birthing experience lead me here well at least on my way here. my cousin had a premature delivery at 32. It was me, her and the RN. The RN was so calm and it was like she had done this a million times not only did she better explain the Labor to us she prepare us for the outcome. she never seemed worried. Years later it was my time to give birth it was a normal labor i was 40 weeks the labor progressed as expected. Just as it was time to push my daughter out i started freaking out like i wasnt ready, i cant do this, saying i wasnt having a baby, Guess who showed up the same nurse who helped deliver my cousins daughter. She was like an angel. i remembered her. She didnt remember me, but she smiled down at me and said " this is the moment you have been waiting for and you ARE ready." that day 9-10 in NY before the terror attack i gave birth to a 7lb 11oz baby girl. I never forgot the feeling the nurse gave me. L&D is where you help families begin. It is my calling:cool:

Just putting nursing experience aside and coming form a womans perspective, i agree with Brownbetty NO!!!!!!!! I have 2 girls that were born on their due date (felt more like 45wks not 40 lol) and completely healthy, but leading up to that day i would freak out thinking what if i had my baby at home. so i guess it is a personal choice but I did wish woman looked at the fact that in a hosptial your baby can get all it needs..........ASAP

students at NMT and ATL tech were have you done your Clinicals?

well, i moved here from NYC and didnt want to live in the city per se so, my family and I live in Cobb county in smyrna. which happens to have very good schools and very close to 285 so i get downtown in 15 min (without traffic). its like being in the city and subs at the same time. where ever you decided to live go check it out at nite. see if you like the atmosphere after dark. single or not you dont want to live in a neighborhood that never sleeps. good luck

VR when do u plan on attending NMT. i will start either this summer or in the fall?

keep your head up! i completely understand how u feel. i have 2 young children my self and love to be with them on the weekends as well. my husband works weekends so its usually just me. i am lucky to have mom nearby. becoming a LPN is great. Be blessed things will work out.

oh i love this quote it mad me laugh my oldest wasnt a problem moving into her big girl bed. which was good cause i needed her crib for baby sis. but baby sis still sleeps in her crib when shes is not sleeping with big sis.my husband and i lol all the time.

i think from what you posted early that in ordered to be considered for NP spring quarter. i would have to take AP, Med Term,intro to health in the fall and take med span,and PCT in the winter. Did i get it right?

hey venus , sorry it took me so long to reply. Been really busy. thanks for the info. i have decided to start NMT in the fall and hope to get into the PN program for next spring. These are the pre reqs i will proably have to take AP, med. Term, intro to health, med span, and PCT-allied health. what classes would you take together within fall & winter quarter? thanks again

i have no medical exp will that play apart in not getting in ? as far as AP i took it years ago when i first was in college and i got a C+. i already know i have to take it over cause its been so long which is good so i can get a better grade. anyway what is the GPA to get in? any pointers on what i should do in the meantime. like review AP? i am pretty good at spanish but can tell me the name of the text book so i can buy it and review beforehand? also i went to a trad. college and felt like there wasnt enough time in a sem how do you feel about the quarters do they go by fast and do have time to complete a textbook or course?

venus, I currently live in smyrna and thinking of going to north metro myself. i learned a lot about the school froom other students who have posted on the forums. i would like your intake on the LPN program there. what quarter are u in? do u like the school? how are the instructors? where did/will u do clincals? i hope to start this summer what classes do you feel are the hardest? thanks:wink2:

hi all, Just venting a little any other LPNs get the question WHY LPN? why not go for RN?........ok maybe i am a little sensitive to the question, but i try and answer it with grace. :angryfire It just bothers me than people assume we choose this as an easy why out. i dont know about anyone else but this is what works for my family and I. How do you feel about this...:angryfire Vent with me!

hey again thanks for the advice but as a asst. PCT you do not need to be certified. and lucky for me i can go to school for LPN without being either or having any medical experience. and as for the RN part i would love to do just that, but the extra time in school will put a whole in family finances.i hav 2 small children, i need to work and most of all they need me. so RN would have to come later after my youngest is in school. thanks again any other advice ?
