  1. Just found out I PASSED!!!! Woo hoo! I'm an RN. Thanks for all the kind words. Sandy
  2. I took the NCLEX yesterday and it shut off at 75 questions. The waiting is killing me. I got quite a few SATA (select all that apply) and alot of priority questions. I had one math question that I'm not sure if I got right or not. I just want to know now whether I passed. I keep going back and forth between feeling good and feeling bad. Just put me out of my misery already!!!
  3. CONGRATULATIONS, Kaley!!!! Sandy
  4. What area are you interested in? They have several speciality areas open so I think it depends on where you want to go. Some positions have been filled and others they're still doing interviews. They usually do a phone interview first to see where you want to go and find out your gpa. You can also give them a call to see what's the status of your application. Everyone I've spoken to in the HR dept has been very nice and helpful. HTH and good luck.
  5. Hi Sandy, If it's financially feasible I would only work part time at the most. Even that was difficult for me to do though. I worked 2 days a week at the beginning of the program but had to take a leave of absence for the last two semesters. It's pretty intense especially the first and last semester so be prepared. It's an interesting journey with lots of highs and lows but it'll be worth it in the end. Good luck.
  6. I have a Bachelor's in Social Work and have gone back to school to get my ADN. I have found there are more opportunities as an RN than as a social worker. While there are some good social work jobs some of them require a Master's in Social Work. I also think it would be easier to change specialties as an RN than as a social worker. That's just my $.02 though.
  7. I'll send out prayers and passing vibes your way that day. Have you started your internship yet? You were going to Our Childrens' House at Baylor, right?
  8. No definite numbers but it was between 100 and 150 applicants for the Summer '07. I was talking to the secretary the other day and she said there were around 230 applicants this time around. I had heard there were around 400 applications but Ann said she didn't get that many. How many points did you have if you don't mind me asking?
  9. The admission process has changed so the number of points for our class may not really help you but I believe it was 14 points. The top 60 students were selected for interviews then the faculty selected 40 students based on those interviews. I believe this time there will be no interviews just the top 40 students will be selected based on their points. Good luck.
  10. I think you're right on Gauge. Some volunteer experience in a hospital or having to become a CNA would give potential students a chance to see if they were really cut out for nursing. This is especially true since nurses need to have skills like patience and empathy that can't be objectively assessed. Ultimately, I think it needs to be a combination of objective (grades, entrance exams, etc.) along with the subjective (personality, temperament, etc). Regardless, a 25% retention rate is something that should be looked at by the administration. That is a pitifully low number that means something isn't right.
  11. RHD, Medical City, Med. Center of Plano and a couple of other places I can't think of right now.
  12. Have fun with the bed baths.
  13. I started out as a volunteer at the hospital I'm at and eventually was able to get a FT position as a unit secretary. I didn't have any other hospital experience but it helped me get my foot in the door. I only had to do it once a week for 4 hours. They were pretty flexible and allowed me to work around my schedule.
  14. Hi Kalmeira, Congratulations!!!!:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: They're still trying to figure out some things with this new class so don't worry about being too far behind. We're only going to do one skills class for the whole semester, RNSG 1105. There wasn't enough time to cover both skills classes in one semester. The skills classes will be on Mon or Tues either 8-11 or 12-3. Since this is a short week due to the MLK holiday the Mon. am class is to meet Wed. morning and the Mon. pm class will meet on Thurs. morning. Next week it goes back to the regular schedule. If you'd like PM me with your email address and I can forward the emails we've received from Ann.
  15. I took the HESI last year but I also noticed that quite a few of the questions were exactly the same as some of the one's in the study guide. My scores were pretty similar to yours. A&P was my downfall as well. At least you passed; that's the important part.
  16. I think the lowest gpa for CCCCD was 3.7 but they reduced the number of students they accepted because there wasn't enough faculty to teach. Acceptance is based on a point system; a combination of your gpa, score on the entrance exam and how many classes you have completed. Hope that helps.
  17. Hi Lady, I took A&P I as a video class Fall, 2005 at Mountain View and A&P II as an online class last spring at Brookhaven. The only problem you may have is that you do need to go to campus to take the lab. I'm not aware of any labs that are done online. They do have the other classes like psych, speech and english online. I have a Bachelor's degree from out of state and my speech, psych, and english transferred over. The only thing I had to retake was chemistry because that was over 5 years old. At the last info. session I went to at Brookhaven someone asked about transferring credit for AP English and I believe the dean said that was ok. You might want to talk to an advisor about that though just to make sure. If you are comfortable speaking and reading spanish you can test out of taking the medical spanish class. It's $25 and you can only do if you haven't already taken Span. 1300. Maybe if you got a Medical Spanish book you can brush up on it and give it a shot. One other thing, since I already had a degree I was exempt from the TSI. I'm sure it would be same for you especially since your degree is from a Texas college. I was accepted into the pilot program that starts at Brookhaven for Summer, 2007. If you are interested in the program keep in mind that you will have to do an interview for admission. It's a group interview so it can be a little nerve-wracking. The questions they ask want to know what your coping skills are, how do you manage your time and how well do you work with others. Hope that helps and good luck in whatever you decide.
  18. Just for clarification are you taking the HESI entrance exam or the exit exam?
  19. Thank you, kalmeira. I still can't believe it!!! Do not give up. We have to notify the school by Dec. 6th if we're going to take the spot or not. There might be a couple of people that decline for whatever reason. I would try to find out if there's an alternate list and where I am on it if it were me. Good luck!!!
  20. Congrats to you sitesonRN!!!! :balloons: :balloons: :monkeydance: I got into Brookhaven as well. :monkeydance: Can't wait to get my packet and start reading.
  21. Well today was the day!! Did anyone else get good news from Brookhaven today via email? I'm so excited to be starting this program. :monkeydance: Can't wait to meet my future classmates. Come on and share your good news!!!!!
  22. FYI...there are 2 different HESI tests. The A2 is an entrance exam that more and more schools are requiring. It covers reading comprehension, vocabulary, math, and A&P and a couple of other sections. The other HESI is a test taken while in nursing school that is supposed to be an indicator of how well a student will do on the NCLEX. Hope that helps.
  23. Hate to break it to you but El Centro is now requiring the HESI A2 entrance exam as well. No more NET. The HESI wasn't that bad. There's a study guide available in the Brookhaven library at the reference desk. That was a big help to me. It also looks like El Centro has a test prep course. Here's the link. http://www.elcentrocollege.edu/Programs/HealthLegalStudies/packets/pdf/ADN07web.pdf
  24. Mr. Beef, Take another look at Brookhaven/Mountain View. Since they received full accreditation in the spring they're going to alternate classes every semester. They're doing a Summer '07 start at Brookhaven and a Fall '07 class at Mountain View. Also, your gpa won't be as much of a factor because it's a point system based on your test score on the entrance HESI exam, your gpa and how many support classes you've completed. They take the top 60 students, do an interview and then pick 40 from there. Brookhaven has info. sessions the 2nd Tues. of every month. I believe the next one is Nov. 14th. Also, check out their website; they have updated it to show all the new info. http://www.brookhavencollege.edu/instruction/h%2Dh%2Dservices/nursing/ Good luck with whatever program you choose.
