What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
Sounds great! I think if you are embarrassed to go to the ER , then you probably should not go. for example : my son had a fever that would not go away ,but seemed fine. i got freaked out and called his pcp who could not see him, i went to the ER and i was embarrassed but fed up. the ER people referred me to ambulatory care where i made an appt for later that day (later it all made sense and i was totally embarred) once i went b/c i spilled hot coffee in my lap..i waited a few hours (meaning it was probably not an emergency ) but when i went to the ER they were so nice..i should have called a PCP but did not have one at the time ! i chopped off my finger tip in a food processor and went to the ER ...when i look back it seems silly ...i would have been fine...but they took care of me in the ER and even managed to stress me out that my finger would never be the same.....it seemed questionable ...but i am lucky to have had great skin re generation

BSN application essay questions
thanks for the input ! one for each side - hmmmm what to do ? i wish i could stop ruminating over these dang questions :) BTW the only reason I would bring up my family is to describe our challenging schedule regarding school/ work/ family and how we manage to keep it all together and basically still love each other (stated more eloquently of course) ha ha ha

BSN application essay questions
Hi everyone! I posted in this forum b/c this topic seems to fit here but I hope to get some input from those who are a bit more seasoned in the nursing world as well! I searched the archives for threads on this topic but nothing quite answered my specific questions. Sorry to beat a dead horse ...... The schools I am applying to have multiple questions to answer (not pick one or two) They are also very straight forward questions which almost seem to duplicate each other , for example: 1/ why do you want to be a nurse 2/ what life experiences have led you towards the nursing field 3/ what academic challenges have you faced and so on.... My questions: should I number my responses and just answer the questions? that seems so lame . I wanted to be all creative and prolific but maybe that is not for nursing school applications :) May I write an essay and incorporate all the answers in the same orderthey are asked, but without the question/answer format? Is it appropriate to bring up my family - I would not want to refer to my boyfriend as my "baby's daddy", "boyfriend" or anything that I actually do refer to him as IRL. :) Using the word partner does not work for me and I certainly would not refer to him as my husband. IRL I don't care what people think as far as the fact that we are not hitched but I feel like I need to be so conservative in expressing myself on the application. HELP ! Thanks for any advice!

Bradley Birth instructor equates nursing with 'maid service'
When I took a Bradley class I was very unhappy with the instructor - signed up 30 women for a class (The groups are supposed to be small) among other things . I felt she was not representing the true ideals of the Bradley method. I dropped the class and contacted the Bradley Organization by phone- they asked me to send a letter detailing my issues with the instructor. I did get my money back BUT also a phone call from the intstructor (the day i came home from the hosp after giving birth no less). She freaked out on me and called me a liar etc.... - i hung up the phone. NOt sure if that was a solution but I wanted to let you know that you can contact someone :) they may not do anything though ! The Bradley Method® (800) 4-A-BIRTH American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth® Box 5224 Sherman Oaks, CA 91413-5224 PS. I had to leave a message when i contacted them - i received a call back within a week or so.

Is it just me, or are nurses pushy?
well i doubt most are pushy, in the customer service sense...although I did have an incident after my c section . I slightly out of it (as a pt) and this nurse came in , did not annouce herself or anything , told me that i needed a shot and stuck me . just like that! i was annoyed and told other nurses later and they all said "she is crazy like that" hmmmmmmmmmmmm i was like "excuse me , why did you just stick that in me , i have no idea what it is and if if even want it!" she was very rude and said some hubaloo.... i did not think she was professional at all . very loud and annoying .

RN school and tattoos?
It depends on so much! If you are flexible with your options , I think that you will realize that perhaps tattoos are not accepted in most parts of the health related fields but I that you would be able to find a job as an RN somewhere ! In my world people would not judge you negatively for tattoos. I appreciate body art and would actually LOVE to have a health care provider with a tattoo! It opens the door for conversation and would add a comfort level to the care I was being provided .

x post Medication management...( kindalong)
It has nothing to do with my treatment and perhaps it was idle chat but not the kind I feel is appropriate. Thanks so much for your insight. I am still not sure what I will do - probably nothing but I wish I had come back with a good line. Instead I just froze ...and said "well we are not ready to get married right now although we are together .....and plan to be for a long time"

x post Medication management...( kindalong)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Should my doctor who manages my meds.....she is a Psychiatrist .... really ask me this ? Or basically ...How would you answer ? So I see this Dr 2X per year . She manages my meds but she is not my therapist. I have been going to see her since 2001. When I became pregnant I took dp to see this dr to discuss the meds I was on , safe for baby? etc She was also prego at the same time . WE have always had a med management relationship ..quick 15 minutes . I always take my ds with me ....etc. She has always talked about her own family i.e. kids etc too... but i still get my stuff across to pay $110 (office visit) for a Rx - 6 more months of my meds . Today she asked me about insurance ...whether I had it or not ...I said that we were able to go onto dp 's even though we were not married . Her next qUestion" Is there a reason why you are not married" felt very awkward to me ! i wanted to tell her it was not any of her business! how do ya'll feel about this ? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ethics Issue: Would you report cheating
in our microbiology class someone kept a test and photocopied it which was totally forbidden.... i knew about it but decided that I would keep my mouth shut ..I just figure ..what goes around comes around someday that person will get what is coming to them...in Virginia, where I used to live, many schools made a HUGE deal about cheating and made you sign a code of ethics etc when being enrolled it might deter a bit but usually people who are going to cheat will do so regardless.... actually come to think of it ..i have seen tons of cheating in my school career , from high school on through community college and 4 yr "prestige" university...it sux but oh well i still keep my mouth shut and figure that these people obviously don't want to learn..their loss - it is REALLY bad though when an exam is curved UGH

It's a Hospital, Not a Hotel (Gripe)
I am so sick of any push for CUSTOMER SERVICE ..while I am not a nurse, I am in school to become one. My other job is in retail at a fine establishment who shoves customer service training down our throats. I have been with the company for 12 years and I still wonder "when are they gonna offer politeness seminars to the customers" there are so many nasty people out there....i need my PhD in psych to figure out what the heck is wrong with some of these people :angryfire thanks for letting me rant
