I am the mother of two girls, 4 and 17 months. I have completed two of my pre-reqs and will also complete all of the co-reqs before I actually apply to ns, so I think I have 7 classes left. I have taken my classes online and it is great. I do not even attempt to do anything when my kids are awake because it would be too frustrating. I have been able to manage fine. I am a much better student than I was when I got my BS, and I bet you will be, too. I seem to be able to focus more in the time that I have. I also know that this is what I want to do. Good luck!

Does anyone know anything about Brookhaven? I haven't seen much about it.

When I logged on tonight I read so many negative threads about becoming a nurse. I was so discouraged until I got to this one. Thank you for sharing this experience and for being a hero.

NO NO NO it doesn't! I had an emergency c-section (horrible, but good recovery) with child number 1 and I love her as much as any parent ever has, even as much as number 2, born by elective c-section.

I'm right there with you guys. Stay-at-home mom of two little ones with a BS in Psychology and several years of HR Management before children. I am taking one pre-req a semester and hope to apply to nursing school when my youngest starts school. I want to do something that matters when I return to work, not just push paper! I am planning on BH. I am re-taking English and Psyc now. My BS is in Psyc, but I didn't get an A. I am just planning on muddling along and seeing what happens. I may try a Science in the spring, to see if I can get an A!! Ashli

You are doing exactly what I am doing. I am taking all pre-reqs and all support courses so that I will be ready to apply for 2010, when my youngest also starts kinder. Good luck!!

You will start the same time I hope to start. I am also taking all support courses and pre-reqs. My BS was earned in 1994, so some of the stuff I have taken is old. I will do 1 or 2 classes a semester. My youngest will start school that year, so I hope that will make nursing school more manageable. Good luck! Maybe we can keep each other motivated....

Why is everyone interested in NL or ElC. I am planning on Brookhaven, after I finish my support courses. Is there something I don't know?

I am also 33 years old, happily married with 2 daughters. I am starting my pre-reqs and support courses in 2 weeks. Have a Psych degree but need to re-do some courses. The program I will apply to recommends completing all support courses before applying to help gain admittance and to lighten actual load while in the program. JennyRN2B, how have you done it? Any tips? I would like to apply to nursing school the year before my youngest starts kindergarten, but will not send her to fulltime childcare, just pre-school two days a week. My hubbie has some flexibility with his job and my mom is retired, so that should help. I just am afraid I am being naive thinking I can do this with two small kids!!!

Annette, You have made my day! That is exactly what I am doing. I am glad to know that other people have done it, too. It is going to take me about 3 years to finish my prereqs and support courses (I am re-taking many that I didn't do well in with my BS). Absolutely! I am a 33 year old sahm of a 3 year old and a 6 month old. I have a BS but still need a total of 11 classes that are recommended to me before applying. I am going to do these 1 or 2 at a time and plan on entering nursing school when my youngest starts kindergarten in thh fall of 2010! I am nuts, but have always wanted to do this. You'll be a baby compared to me. I just wish I had decided to so this the first time I went to college.

I am so excited to find this thread. I am starting the support courses at Brookhaven in the Fall. I am a sahm of two young daughters and can't do full out nursing school (assuming I could get in :) until the young one starts kindergarten. My plan is to take all the support courses amd pre-reqs in the next three years, and then apply. This should help lighten my load and get me in. I have a BS but didn't take any A&P. I have heard that the DCCCD programs are great and competitive. The info session was very helpful. Ashley
