  1. Yep...happened to me! A failed induction which ended up in c-section!
  2. hi welcome! Just wondering which school you applied to?? I know several school have waiting lists, but don't give up hope because I hear that several people drop out of their program the first few weeks for one reason or another. Maybe you can get in then. Good luck! ~*L.
  3. So I'm getting informed in order to promptly apply to school (BSN) in 2006. I have my nursing websites list and have allnurses and my college website in my favorites etc. etc. I am trying to be prepared financially, mentally (what it might be like). I am looking at the different textbooks I will learn from, I have talked to other nurses etc. etc. I'm trying to cover my bases (if you will) :):) While looking through bursaries/awards/scholarships info, I have had this feeling that in nursing school to do well you need to somewhat "stand out" among your class. You either need to have an issue you are passionate about...example: patient advocacy, a certain subject you adore, breath, and are willing to describe inside out...etc. etc. For your teachers to notice you and believe your conviction to the nursing pathway you need to be ~special~....not teachers pet, not brown nosing (sorry the expression). So what is THE secret...how do you become that special thing or person that stands out among the rest....someone who seems to have passion, determination, a love for the nursing route and issues. When there are 100 people in your classes...what stand do you take to make an impression??????? ~*L.
  4. I am in Ontario, will be applying for RN (BSN) as a mature student, however I still have 6 University Prep courses....or grade 13 (if you will). Up until last year in Ontario students could take an extra year of high school (hence gr. 13) and do OAC (Ontario Academic Credits). These were needed if one was going into University. I have Biology Univ., Chemistry Univ., English Univ. and three other Univ. courses of my choosing. I have checked out websites of other universities and they are all about the same. Some require more math. Where are you from in Ontario?? HTH, ~*L. :)
  5. Where I'm applying in 2006 (ontario - RN) you need a high school diploma or equivalent (whatever that means) or mature student status....HOWEVER, even with one of these three you need 6 OAC (Ontario Academic Courses-A.K.A. Grade 12 University Prep courses) Three of those have to include English U, Biology U and Chemistry U and then 3 others of your choice. Everywhere is different. Your best bet is to get your transcripts checked out by a counsellor...they may be able to give you maturity credits and then you just have the pre-requisites to do. HTH, ~L.
  6. What about getting in with mature student status....depending on how old you are. Good luck in your studies. ~L.
  7. ~Crystal, So happy to hear everything worked out. It's not a fun place to work when there is a grudge between co-workers. Just shows that you weren't the problem at all and you did NOTHING wrong! Thanks for keeping us updated!! Hugs, ~*L.
  8. I posted a few days ago about the many decisions I have to make regarding going to nursing school. I am from Canada so I have 6 OAC (highschool University Prep Courses) to do before even applying and you all had very, very, very ~GREAT~ advice for me that it got me all excited about this school thing!!! Thank-you, thank-you!! Now, could you think back to your days as a student and share with me which class you found the most difficult or overwhelming and which you enjoyed the most and was the easiest for you. I just want a peep of what to expect.... Thanks a bunch--you guys are the best!! ~*L.
  9. Ok, here's the deal. I've decided to apply to the nursing degree program in my town for September 2006. I've wanted this FOREVER!! I have felt nursing is for me from a very young age and kept putting it off and made bad choices right out of high school (went to work instead of continuing on with school). Anywhoo....I am married have two wonderful kids and am SO ready for this. I am working on 6 pre-requisites that I need to even apply and will be working my butt off to get done on time to apply in February. And then the self doubt sets in. I consider myself to be a smart person--never applied myself much during my high school years, but that didn't mean I wasn't smart...so this is probably why now...that I am nearing 30 years old and wondering if I'm smart enough to go the nursing route. I remember hating math in high school...loved science...math was not my strong point...but never really tried either. I have been reading, reading, reading, reading posts after posts on this forum, have talked to other nurses I know and here I am sitting at my computer.....big decision to be made....I so want this--but lack the self esteem to an extent!!!!!! I hear words like pathology, pharmacology math, anatomy etc. etc. etc. millions of drug names and what they do and wonder....am I SMART enough!!!?????!!!!!! I'm going nuts!! Please don't skip over this post. I need to know how you felt and how you have surprised yourself as the classes went by. I'm not a kid anymore and I have a family involved (who are very supportive). I want this so bad, but am missing "something" self belief???!?!?!?!?!? Thanks in advance--!
  10. :uhoh21: Am I the only one getting excited about doing those! Thanks for the great tips. When I do get to that point this forum will be such a great resource!! ~L.
  11. So I'm applying for the Bachelor of Science nursing program for 2006. I have just a regular high school diploma (Canadian) and things have changed since I graduated in 1995...anyways...so now I have 6 pre-requisites to do before application time in Feb. 2006...argh!!! Biology, Chemistry, English and three other University prep courses (of my choice)! I am a mom and working so I will be doing these through the adult education by correspondence (at home, on my time)....man do I have to get my butt in gear!!!!!!! Need some positive thoughts and many pats on the back....this will be a tough 6 months, but I am determined!!! Feels weird working on high school courses again!! Did I mention I hate pre-requisites! Thanks for reading my frustrations! ~*L.
  12. So I'm applying for the Bachelor of Science nursing program for 2006. I have just a general high school diploma (Canadian) and things have changed since I graduated in 1995...anyways...so now I have 6 pre-requisites to do before application time in Feb. 2006...argh!!! Biology, Chemistry, English and three other University prep courses (of my choice)! 13. I'm not a nurse yet, but I've had two c-sections in the past four years and fundal checks ARE still being done and let me tell you they are uncomfortable :) . I think two nurses did it in the recovery room and then again upstairs when I was brought back to my room. I was losing a lot of blood. I hope you find out your answer....I'm very curious as to why they wouldn't perform them. If I had another c-section and it was not done...I would ask them to do one. ~*Lucie
  14. Hi everyone! I'm Lucie and am new to the forums. I am presently working on my science pre-requisites in order to apply for the 2006 Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at a college nearby. I'm will 29 in November and have two beautiful kids...aged 4 yrs. and 18 months. As far back as I can remember I've wanted so much to go into nursing. Back then you could do college for two years and become a nurse here in Canada, but now every new nurse must graduate from a 4 year degree program. So tell me straight forward...am I nuts to do this at 29 years of age...knowing that I will only start working when I am 33 or 34 years old. Am I nuts.....with having two young kids going back to school when I have been out of classes for so long?? I do have a very supportive husband who is telling me...just do it, but then I have family members who think I will exasperated in two years and wonder why I didn't take an RPN two year program or go down a different career path. So in short...am I crazy to do this...an I too old....and is it do-able :) ????? Come on, give me the straight forward--and I'll welcome all the tips and advice I can get. Thanx a bunch! ~*Lucie
