Dealing With Lay Curiosity
I'm a student nurse intending to go into hospice and pallative care and have been a hospice volunteer for 10 years. People's reactions have ALWAYS been the same as quoted! Either way it's apparent how strangely, really, Americans deal with death and dying, as though it were something to be hidden away and definitely not discussed. They either exlaim about how saintly hospice careworkers are (and we know we're not) or they clam up and slink away! When they ask me questions like "how can you deal with that day after day" I always reply by reminding them that "we all are scheduled for that stop on this ride - don't you want the journey to end as gently as possible?" That's about the time that they head for the open bar!

Any other "second career" students out there?
Good for you - and such an advantage, working in the health industry already and having the benefit of tuition reimbursement! Best of luck!

Any other "second career" students out there?
Wow - amen to you! I know exactly how you feel and couldn't have articulated better!!

Happy Birthday to you, too!

Any other "second career" students out there?
Are there any other second career students out there? Or older students? I am attending nursing school after an 18 year career in I/T Learning and Development and I'd like to hear about the experiences and challenges of others in the same situation. How about getting into a nursing program - wait lists and such for those of us with little time to waste and balancing finances and families?

I'm so upset, I didn't get into nursing school this spring
Does anyone know anything about wait lists in New Jersey? My community college, Raritan Valley CC has a wait of two years after completing minimum course work. What about the four year schools or private ones?
